I have a 96 TSi with injen intake and stock 2g MAF (4.5" filter). My issue is that I don't have short route innercooler piping so a normal cone air filter won't work. I have to assume this problem is had by others but I cannot find a 4.5" inlet air filter. I've seen mushroom style filters on ebay and hks website but not in 4.5. I'm thinking about making my own with foam so if anyone else has done this I'd like some input. Thanks.

I'm just about at that point to start fabbing. I may smell a journal entry coming on for others to check out how it works.

As for the second post; knew it... yes. Did I think of it before you said something... sure didn't :) But I don't like the idea of any reduction, though it may not make much of a difference, but I'm kinda digging the "give it a college try" route and custom fabbing.

I'd rather not risk sucking something into my turbo.

Plus, a random piece of foam and some screen is going to be more restricting than a properly designed air filter with a slightly smaller fitting. The area of the outlet of the MAF is only about the same as a 3.5" circle.
