2G GSX shell question

hey guys ,i found a gsx shell,and i want to do an engine swap,my question is how hard is to do that??? is it possible do do myself or its better to go and let the mechanics do all that sh*t??? and what else from engine bay i can use on the 2g shell?? thanks alot
 
I don't think that we could tell you whether or not you can do it yourself since we have no idea of your mechanical background. My friend did that swap in his garage so you could do it yourself if you have the tools.
 
i never did that before,the things i did by myself to my car aew, tranny swap,cluch,replace turbo,fuel pump,turbotimer and maft gen2 setup,so i dunno if im gonna handle the engine swap,but if ill go to mechanics would it be expensive to do a swap?? cause that shell gad 6bolt swap before so i think it wouldnt be that hard
 
if you can do tranny swaps and everything else, it should not be to hard as long as you know which lines to hook up where (get a haynes manual) and if you have decent mechanical skills (sounds like you do) it should be a breeze have a buddy over and do it in a day or 2
 
Sounds like you got the skills to do it, just go for it. Haynes manual is a must
 
Its really not as hard as you would think. I had never done a swap before and it is really easy. All of the electrical adapters only plug into one socket. You can't mess that up. The hoses really are not that bad either. Just get a picture of an engine bay online. You can use that to reference some of the hose diagrams. The haynes manual helps a lot too. Really its not hard. I did this on my Old 95 GST that I sold.
 
its more than just a shell...its the tranny and everything. judging from the ad all it needs is a motor? from the parts sold, im guessing he replaced all of them with the stock parts? do you know any of this? im not sure if id go for $5000 but MAYBE $4000 something
 
Unless you had the money to build the motor, then I would look around for a running one. Your going to end up spending about 7-8k by the time your done not to mention the time, work, etc that your going to have to put into it.

The 6-bolt swap isn't that big of a deal, and it looks like he already has it setup for a 6-bolt to drop in .. but you could probably find a running gsx for 6-8k depending on it's condition.

yeaah im gonna put my engine into the shell,cause my engine is pretty much strong,and i was rebuilted it 5000 miles ago,so now with my mods i got 263 whp so on a GSX 263 would me pretty much cool so im not gonna spend alot $ as you said,but i was looking at classifield there are alot of 2g gsx shells for under 3000$ but they are far away from me and the shipping would cost alot to get it to my house :(

It depends, renting a truck and/or a trailer isn't as expensive as you think. A Uhaul 4 wheel trailer is about $70/day in this area. If you don't have a truck to pull it you can rent one from them also.
 
i talked to that guy who sells the shell and he told me that he doesnt have the stock parts,he sold alot of aftermarket parts,so what kind of stuff do i need before im getting this shell??? like does my stock side mount intercooler would fit?? does my upper intercooler pipe would be good?? and what about mas sensor??? can i still e using my maft gen2 instead of 2g mas ???

no, my point was that he had aftermarket parts on the car, and said he took some of them off and sold them. so did he replace the parts he sold or is it just missing random parts? if its missing things and yours are still in good condition, in most cases you can just swap them. if they are both 2g engines (not sure if it was a 6bolt swap) then all your mas and pipes and smic should fit fine..
