2g GST build

Hey everyone, I just picked up a 1998 GST shell with complete motor separated. I got this car to make a project out of it. I am looking to make this a mostly DD friendly car so I don't plan on going crazy. I wanna put down about 400whp for power. I see no reason to make a fwd car a monster. So I post this to ask what kind of ideas everyone had for a build. I have a budget of about 6k on the engine and 4k on the rest of the car for like paintjob, seats, guages, and CF hood. Is this a reasoable budget for my goals and I would like to know what everyone uses for similar builds? Thank you for your time.

6k on the engine, if you do the build yourself, I bet with just 3-4k, you could make a beefy 500+ hp capable engine.

I 1.5k can get your around a 350hp. So I assume you spend the extra 1k, like 2500 you can get evo pistons, and better rods. Probaly handle around 450 I would expect.


I personally did a budget build. I also turned my non-turbo into a turbo block. With turbo rotating assembly. ALL OEM parts, cost around 1.25k and I'm happy. I plan on running 8-12 psi all day long when it's done.

Im looking for a heavy duty power plant that can handle up to 500whp. I guess I am used to the expensive building process associated with EVOs. If I can save money in engine budget then more will go to the cosmitics.

I will do the build myself, I do however need to have the block and head sent to a machine shop to be restored

Honestly if everything is in spec, all you really got to do is get the block bored out. Shouldn't be to much. As far as machine work. I did have, a set of valve and valve seat grinding tools at my disposal though on my build.

ya a nice block setup and head setup is what i had in mind with a bigger IC and a precision turbo
