First, I'll start off by saying that I know you can order them from Ground Control directly and specify spring rates. Anyhoo, I found a website that's selling them for $339 (about $360 shipped), which I'm sure is less than what GC is asking for them.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew what the "default" spring rates are for a 2G FWD if you order them somewhere else. I know you can get them at various places as a kit. The part # is 5520.05 for use with KYB AGX's, which is the same number on both this website and on GC's website.

Ground Control PN5520.05 (2G FWD for use with KYB AGX's):
Front spring is 0700.250.0450 (7" long, 2.5" inner diameter, 450lb./inch)
Rear spring is 150.64.53 (6" long, 2.5" inner diameter, 300lb./inch)

So you are running 450's in the front and 150's in the rear?

I believe that he either copied over the wrong numbers for the rears or they are in metric for some reason. GC sends you 300s for the rear, so the parenthetical is probably correct.

Note that the default springs that GC sends are wrong in every way. You want 8" springs in the front and 7" springs in the rear, plus you want rear rates that are at least 75# higher.

You want 8's in the front to prevent binding, correct? Having 75# higher in the rear, does this apply to FWD? or just AWD?

Yes. Both.

So my rates are totally fubar? I am running f: 550 and r: 375

What rates do you suggest for FWD?

I'm currently running on Maxspeed coilovers with 7" 570lb/inch springs up front (came with the kit) and replaced the rears with 7" 350lb/inch QA1 springs in the rear. The rears were 470lb/inch and waaay too stiff for daily driving.

Anyhow, with the current setup the ride is fairly stiff. I actually want a softer ride, so I think the 450/300 combination will be fine. If not, I'll just buy new springs and up the fronts to 500-525 (pitstopusa.com has hypercoils and eibachs for $48 each). 7" up front works out fine for me, the car is only lowered about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. The 6" rear spring worries me somewhat, as it seems too short. I may just put on the 7"/350lb springs I have on their now.
