anyone do this? i imagine it wouldn't be too hard, i'm just wondering about the sending unit and if the filler neck is on the same side. 3 of my studs broke off and i don't feel like emptying it and waiting for vapors to be gone (and they never will be) and having it blow up on me trying to fix it. also how are the studs that hold it to the 1g cars fixed? are they welded to the body? thanks.

I don't believe it will work. The 1g had the exhaust IIRC goto the passenger side which would interfere with the 2g tank.

that sucks! i don't want a fuel cell either, IMO they are ugly when mounted outside and i don't want to mount one inside. anyone ever snap the studs that actually mount the tank to the car and fixed them? mine are rusty as hell, although i haven't actually tried to unbolt them yet.

Just try and see what you can do to fix them. I'm sure it's much cheaper than getting a replacement gastank unless you have a spare. Just be in a well ventilated area with a fan blowing across the giant hole on top of the tank to help pull out excess fumes and blow them outside.

i want to get the tank out so i can chisel off the piece with the studs. it's just spot welded to the top of the tank. from there i will probably just wire brush off the surfaces and maybe jb-weld it back on or have someone tack it with a tig.

Get it welded. I wouldn't rely on JB weld holding part of your fuel system.

It really isn't that big a deal to just fix the studs with the tank in the car. It took me a couple hours and I successfully avoided blowing my car up. I think the shop vac I used really helped clear any remaining fumes.

The gas tanks aren't swappable for all sorts of reasons btw, not just the filler being on the wrong side. The shapes are all wrong and you'd never get a 2g tank securely fastened in the same spot the 1g tank is at.
