Washington,
Hi all,

I have seen a few writeups about fuel pump installs and they have mentioned dropping the pump from below. I have a 95 awd tsi. Is there no way to do this from above where the seat is? Must it be done from below underneath the car? One of the articles mentions that you shouldn't unscrew it from above, but then after showing you how to do it from below, it then tells you to unscrew it from above now. The nuts I mean.

thanks

Yes, that's the other vfaq I had seen. Is it necessary to take the bottom line out?

If you can get the line disconnected near the fuel pump, then you don't have to disconnect it underneath the car. But it's easier to disconnect the line underneath the car, at least in my experience.

^^beat me to it

Save it for last if you don't think so and you can see for yourself why it needs to come off. It's not hard, just get two flare nut wrenches, a pan to catch the fuel, and some elbow grease and it's off. If you try to take it off from the top, you risk bending the pipes.

I didn't have a problem disconnecting it from the top. Mine came loose pretty easily. You just have more room under the car so it may make it easier. Also make sure you have some towels or something to soak up the gas that leaks out.

Thanks all, I will go ahead and do it from the bottom after I finish everything else in the front of the car. I was trying to avoid it because the front of my car is already jacked up for the turbo/intercooler/etc install.
