Well, I've already done an extensive search and dont have a clear answer. I'm taking a 97 GST ECU and putting it in my 95 TSI. Besides swapping the spark plug wires, what else do I need to do. I've read somewhere that I need to swap 2 wires on the CAS, is that true? Any input is appreciated.............thanks

This is a quote from the DSM link website. You should be able to figure out what you have to do from it, even though it's for using a '95 ECU in a '97-'99 car.

"The '95-'96 style Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) sends out a signal that's electrically "inverted" from other DSM cam sensors (1G or '97+ style). When you put a '95 ECU into a car with a non-95 CAS, the ECU ends up swapping the firing order of the injectors. In most cases, this produces very little noticeable difference in drive quality. But we offer the option to invert the CAS signal anyway just in case. You can selectively invert this signal with the DSMLink software as you wish. You will still need to swap your spark wires, though. We can't control spark firing order in the EPROM at crank time. So even with CAS inversion, you still have to swap plug wire 1 with 2 and 3 with 4."

This sounds to me like you'll have to at least swap plug wires, and maybe injector clip locations if it isn't running well.

if you swap the plug wires ya dont swap wires on the CAS - u do 1 or the other.
and ya - the 95-96 CAS has a inverted signal so injectors may be off some but ya may not notice it.

Well, I just plugged the new ECU in, switched the plug wires at the coil and It still didnt start. I'm not even getting spark. I've changed the Power Transistor, checked and changed plugs, wires, coil, now ECU. I also check both Cam and Crank Sensors and according to Haynes they check good. Here's what happened. My car was running fine and I let it sit for a week while i went out of town. I got back, started right up and drove it. While driving, I came to a stop light and it died, and wouldnt restart. So I parked it overnight. Came back the next morning and it fired right up first try. Started driving home and it died again after about 10 minutes. It sat another two days, then started up again, then died and now it will not start at all. Its cranking but there is no spark, what else can I do besides just to go ahead and replace the Cam/Crank sensors??????????

Yes, I did check for spark with the old ecu and the new one. I also had no spark with a different power transistor. No spark on any cylinder. I'm hoping that its the crank sensor. Its my last option before I take it to a shop or buy a 99 GST/GSX, I'd like to drive this car as long as I can though...........
anything else?
