ECMlink 2G ECMLink 2.5 connection issues

Good afternoon. I replaced my dead battery on my car the beginning of this week trying to diagnose whether or not I have a bad alternator. Ever since I've had link (almost 2 years now) I was able to connect my laptop up until 2 days ago. I'm connected via v2 cable/adapter and a db9 to USB connection. My original laptop cycles through all the com ports and never connects and I determined from device manager that it's detected. I fiddled with the connection/adapter and got no luck.

On day two i had installed ECMLink off CD and DL'd the latest updates/driver from this site on two different laptops. 1st new laptop I'm using the same DB9 to USB connection.

I get this error message below. It doesn't matter what USB port.

COM5: Trying to connect
COM5: No response received!
LOG MSG: Action raised exception

2nd laptop is an older Dell Latitude with a built in console port that I can bypass using the USB converter. Upon connecting link back to this laptop I would get the same error as the previous laptop. It's strange that my original laptop that had link working would cycle all the available ports but the 2nd two would not. I would have to manually connect for it to try.

Last thing i tried was using a universal ODB II reader from my brother to see if it can even detect anything. I get no response on the reader. I know it works since it connects when connected to my other car.

My car starts but and runs kinda rough but i need to apply gas upon start up until it steadies out. Is my ECU messed up and in need of v3 upgrade?

Pin 16 is your power source and pin 5 is the ground if you want to first verify power is getting to the diagnostic port. I had a problem a few years ago with connecting and it ended up being corrosion on the back side of the fuse box on the driver side.

There is also a fuse somewhere that works in conjunction with the port and some interior lights. I can't remember what one though, I will have to search to find what one it is.

thanks for the input. i got it figured out. after reading your response i remembered i took out the 10a door lock fuse the other day. i would never think that the door fuse would also control the diagnostic port. well i learned something new today. again thanks.
