2g eclipse woefully underpowered in gt4

Well I have both the 97' Talon Esi and the Eclipse GT and I pretty much maxed both of them out.

The 420a Talon is 280hp NA stage III engine work (Port & Polish, Engine balancing, Higher Compression:
(I'm thinking 12:1 because they give you three stages of cr to buy),
racing chip, exhaust, Cams (very lopey at idle)
I tried to match the gear ratios to the 3.55 Neon Tranny, but you can only do that on the full custom 6 speed Transmission which is dumb.
All the weight mods, super soft racing tires, triple plate clutch, lightned flywheel, Full custom LSD and added a 100 shot of Nitrous.

My best 1/4 time at NA is 12.62 @132mph
(I launched in 2nd gear with a 100 shot and sprayed throughout the gears).
If I launch in 1st gear I can only get 13.12 @ 131mph with 100 shot.
Without N20 its 13.54 @ 113mph regular launch.
You can shift at 7800 in the NA.

Both the Talon ESI-T and Eclipse GT, you can only shift at 7500.

My best time with the 330hp Talon Esi-T stage III Non Intercooled Turbo  is
12.786 @ 134mph with a 100 shot again launching in 2nd gear
without N20 the stage III turbo ESi-T ran a 13.40 @ 119mph

My Eclipse GT is around 380hp
Best time was 12.499 @ 135mph with a 100 shot
Still had to launch in 2nd gear to avoid wheel spin.
Without N20 the best I got was 13.074 @120mph

Its kinda dumb they dont give you an option to use an intercooler on the turbo kit for the Talon Esi or that they dont give you stage IV or Original Turbo kits for both DSM's. :|

I would also like to note that I thought ther might have been hope with the SRT-4, but even thats slow (15.35 @ 96mph stock) Not accurate!
and the best I got was 12.291 @ 138mph with a 6 speed Auto tranny, LSD, slicks and a 70 shot. Everything basically maxed out.
It was 480hp without the shot. :thumbdown

My hope is that I can find a gameshark or codebreaker code to swap engines. I'll do an EVO swap :p
my best time with an MR was 9.221 @ 161mph :thumb:

Gonna have to call BS on that unless you provide pics or are you using AR or Gameshark cheat codes

I agree. The fastest I could get my Eclipse (just about all the mods, slicks, nitrous, etc) in the 400m was like 12.4x The best method I've found for most FF using nitrous is to start off in 2nd gear but DONT SPRAY IT UNTIL YOU HIT 3rd. I've found that waiting til 3rd to spray knocked .2 off my times consistently because of traction.

Which is kinda unrealistic for a 280hp car to have to launch in 2nd gear to get a good run.

I wish they'd have improved the 400m simulation in this game. Thats such a big part of racing and showing your cars performance , which alor of cars in this game are off (Grand National , SRT-4 for example..). And AWD cars should lift off at the line. They should add 2 player, tire marks, 60' times, reaction time, red lighting, mishifting, engine, clutch damage from not performaning a good run etc. Then give you a time slip showing everything. Pretty much alot of things NFSU had in their drag racing section but improved. Thats not really asking much imo.

Good point. Which brings me back to the fact that nobody seems to be even challenging Polyphony Digital in this genre. There are like six different "underground racing" games, and a bunch of rally games- but only one GT. Somebody like Electronic Arts should just step up and do an Americanized GT syle game with emphasis on drag racing, drifting, crcuit racing and rallying and with all the desirable cars available on the American market. Hell, just circuit and drag would be fine. It wouldn't take anywhere near 600+ cars to do it right. I can't believe all the useless classics, vans, trucks and concepts that clutter up the GT4 experience. 100 cars would probably be more then enough.

I completely agree. Although the NFSU had some good features about it, I couldn't stand the "mad tyte y0" street racing kind of atmosphere of the game. The thing I like about GT is that it's more professional, and therefore I expected it to be fairly detailed and accurate in the areas that I found out were lacking (performance parts, drag racing). For pete's sake, my Cadillac Cien has over 900hp and runs 400m slower than my 500hp Evo!
(and the Cien with the softest race tires available and a lot of weight distributed on the rear wheels and still NO TRACTION).

The only game the I've ever played that portrays the T/E/L line accurately is Pro Race Driver. It only has the AWD Talon. There are no upgrades available but you can tweak the setup. Boost is at 15 psi (if I remember right) and handling is very realistic.

Well guys I have a new 1\4 mile time for the 2g in the game. I just ran a 12.289 and thats with NOS and R5 tires and stage 3 turbo but this is the crazy thing I launghed in 3rd gear w/nos and let it go all the way to red line in every gear.

Let me know if some has got a better time and what setup your running :thumb:

Exactly. NFSU has its place, but I figured it would never ever reach the levels of GT professionalism. But in some ways, I think GT has gotten stuck on itself and should have raised the bar some more, rather then assume they are so much better.

Silly things like being able to buy a Spoon turbo kit for an S2000, or putting a computer chip OBDII+ car rather then standalone tuning, or a chip on an antique or classic car with a carb. Stuff like that shouldn't have made it past GT1.

Ahh, the "Racing Chip" is what irks me the most. Everytime I put it on a car I feel like I'm install that Venom400 POS  I honestly think, though, that GT4 makes up for a lot of this with the suspension/handling/sound of the different types of vehicles. I can actually tell the difference in handling between AWD, FF, FR, etc.

Is it just me or do the physics of this game just totally suck compared to 3? I dunno if they tried to make it play better on the ProForce thing or what, but I'm really dissappointed in the gameplay, even thinking of taking the game back, and I've never done that before. Just frustrated after all the hype and waiting. Am I wrong?

No friggin' way! It's by far the most realistic driving game i've ever played, including any arcade simulator games. I do have the ProForce, I don't know if that makes a difference, but with the wheel, sitting in front of the TV, I almost feel like i'm in a real car.

Hmmm...yea I am hearing more positive than negative on the physics engine. I'd like to try it with a ProForce and see if that makes it better...just seems like no matter how hard I steer (still like the directional pad over the thumbstick) the car can't make any friggin turn unless I'm doing like 20 mph. Maybe it's just all those years of GT3 made me soft

No Even with a wheel the cars understeer way too much. I have heard you have to turn off all the driving aids to make them act right, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I dunno.. they feel fine to me. Try driving a real car at over 100mph and see how well your car steers.

I have driven/steered a real car over a hundred, but that's not what I'm talking about. Its the low speed corners at 50 or less where the cars skid too much. And I tried reducing the driving aids and it does allow the cars to rotate a little more, drift and powerslide rather then understeer - especially annoying on Hong Kong and New York. However it is for each car and not a global setting, so that could either be helpful or tedious I haven't decided yet.

Ahhhhh, I remember the good old days of GT1... You could get an Eclipse "GT" and mod it well over 600hp. That game will always and forever have a special place in my heart. :) :thumb:

in the game the NA upgrades for the talon only give it about 300hp but it has much better throttrol respose and its a really good FF car id highy reccoment trying it over the turbo just tighten up the rear sway bar, lower its ride height, spring rate, and shock bound and rebound and it really is better then the turbo in the game...also change the oil

Theres alot of things i dint like about the game and things i did like, for instance the biggest thing was no awd eclipse or talon, and they call the turbo dsm a gt, wtf is that seriously.

and the other biggest thing, is the N/a Tune race were i use a nsx (my love besides dsm's), and the first race they set you up against a Mustang Cobra Svt(supercharged oviously) which is just ####ing retarded. They may have spent alot of time on this game but they did it for all the wrong reasons

Btw that last super test was ###, the mercades sucked ass.....

The car skids because of the driving aids! Turn the aids completely off and set TCS to 1 or 3 depending on the car, get some good tires, and now drive a car. Remember that you HAVE to brake and turn properly in this game, you can't just plow through the corners. I have a few friends that drive with A/T and that also hurts, you can't downshift into corners or anything. Just trying to help some of you out. :thumb:

On topic: very disappointed with the Eclipse in GT4, although it is in the game as the rare Japanese model and there really was no aftermarket for them in Japan. :notgood:

You can always make a hybrid with a gameshark, back when I had GT2, I had a hybrid GST-converted to AWD with 1,000hp....did it move OMG

Im preety sure once the codes start coming out you can start making hybrids preety easily.

Yeah man, gt 2 was the shit... i think i even still have it somewhere. I liked the fact that you could throw racing kits on it where it would do special sponsor paintjobs and stuff... pluse they had the good eclipses

EDIT: A godd eclispe... i found out that they only had the 97 gst
