Alright. So going to make this as short and as detailed as possible. Upon deceleration, the vehicle is suffering from miss/backfire. Also, when I am accelerating, the boost will pick up but the car will not begin to pull until about 2,500RPMs.

::Symptoms::
Backfire from Decel
Hesitation to accelerate
Slightly bad gas mileage
Unplugging 02 Sensor does nothing to the performance of the car
CEL which is reading 2 codes. One for Purge Control Solenoid. One for EGR Solenoid.

::Fix Attempts::
Reset ECU. Will 'click' every so often until CEL comes on.
Installed Thermostat. PO removed this.
Pulled Fuel Rail and soaked injectors in cleaning solution.
Checked for leaks. System is tight.
Changed Spark plugs. BPR7ES at .028. Tried BPR6ES' as well.

I recently also noticed that the spark plug wire for Cylinder two was slightly melted. I traced this back, and it looks like the coil closest to the Timing Belt has heat damage? =/

Any input would be appreciated. As much detail as you can give would be great.

Thanks.

I'm having almost the same issue...and it tends to happen around 2000to 2500 rpms when i go from low throttle to high throttle very quickly. it doesn't matter exactly how much i put my foot down, it stutters for a couple seconds then gets up and moves. it will also do it at higher rpms as well when i suddenly push the throttle down more, CEL came on when it started happening too and i really am thinking TPS but i would rather not buy one unless i know thats what my problem is. my car also seems to be running richer than before too even though i didn't change my tune on it with my safc2. i know is running richer than before because its spitting out black smoke and will shoot out some flames up top.

I'm currently diagnosing my issue.

My most recent BLT resulting in my system barely holding pressure at all.

Do a BLT. I'll post up a certain answer as soon as I diagnose it.

right now i'm leaning more towards my ecu, since it has some corrosion on the outside of it plus the last owner who installed the safc2 didn't do the greatest wiring job. and no boost leaks for me

well i feel stupid...my mas somehow managed to unplug itself, or i have a ghoast inhabiting my car

92 6 bolt, I would definitely check your tps and make sure its adjusted properly, I had similar problems and found out my tps was way off, also had my MAS plug get moisture inside of it and it ran funny like that as well, hope that helps.

It's a good idea, but I think he stated that he found his issue to be his MAF plug. But you are correct though, sometimes it can be the ECU. Might as well pull it and check to be safe if you run out of options.

Hey,
I know this thread is 13 years old, but I hope somebody is still gonna be able to help....
What is the MAS?
I have already heard of MAF, MAP... but I never heard MAS

I am having a similar issue were my car will have backfires on hard accelerations and when it does these back fires, the car kicks. Kinda seems like the engine misses

Just different ways to name the same thing. Mass AirFlow Sensor. Some people abbreviate it as MAF Seensor and others just MAS.

If you are only experiencing problems upon harder acceleration and getting into boost pull the plugs. Check the condition of them and the gap. I run ngk copper plugs in the 7 heat range gapped at .025.

I pulled the plugs today. They are NGK BPR6EIX, if I recall correctly. They have just a little over 1500 miles and they looked just as I would expect them to look like, at that mileage. I closed the gap to .020 today and still have the same issue. Engine runs good when cruising around. But also when idling, while at normal operating temps, I can hear in the exhaust little misses every now and then... Might be another symptom, from the same cause, I'm not sure....

I run stock gap 7s for many years and power levels without a single problem. Closing it down is just gonna be a bandaid if it would of fixed the issue. Check those plug wires really good as I've had one tear and arc out on me. It was a Taylor 10.2mm and I bought another set. This allows me to also customize my wire length and routing with my sheet metal intake manifold. Inspect them for any small tears, holes or excessive carbonation on the connection to the coil pack.

Thanks! I'll have to check that whenever i'll find the time
