but the mast broke up. so basically i only have the base. do i need to open something under the trunk?

With you having a GSX I'm assuming, then you have a power antenna. You have a few options. If its any part of the power antenna assembly, there are many websites that sell almost every part. If you want to convert to a non-power antenna, then locate a junk yard or some how find an eclipse with a fixed-base antenna and swap all of the parts over. Or you can completely remove the exterior antenna all together and either buy a 25mm grommet from your local Honda dealership. Or weld the hole close and then install a hidden antenna. Hidden antennas usually go for around $25-40 depending on brand and the location you want to put the antenna.

Replacing a full powered antenna assembly is not hard at all. A few electrical clips and a couple bolts and nuts and you are good to go. A fixed base antenna is just easy to work with in the future. Oh yeah its easier to add a shorty (3") antenna to fixed-base antenna adapters. Getting rid of the antenna all together looks cleaner IMO ( No more RC car look) and you can buy the hidden one if you still want radio.
