2G 2G Alternator Disassembly

Trying to replace the brushes on my 2G alt. I have the pully & front cover off.

Problem: Can't remove the stator & shaft from the rear cover. I tried prying it and it moves about 1/8 inch but binds after that. Is there a trick to this or am I missing something?

Bonus: Anyone have a diagram of the 2G alt? Or maybe disassembly instructions?
