Is a 2g install kit needed for all aftermarket turbos? I was lookin g at the T04b on dsmparts and I am just starting to look.

Thanks in advance

probably a dumb question and yes I searched

You won't need an "2g install kit", unless like has been said its a turbo designed to "bolt-on" to a 1g.

But most turbo's won't directly install into the 2g, a lot are designed to bolt on as far as attaching to the exhaust manifold & O2 sensor housing, such as the T04b that you have mentioned. But a lot of the time you will need a different oil feed line, oil drain line, modify the stock, get new or plug the water lines and because of the different compressor exit your pipeing will change.

For a turbo such as that I believe you will also need a different intake as I think its a 3" compared to the factory t25 which is just over 2".

No. Only certain turbos will require a 2g install kit, like 14b and 16g will need it. Isn't that turbo you are looking at a 50 trim? If I am correct that turbo bolts right on. Hope this helps.

Stay boostin

thanks everyone... I am looking at this kit :

http://dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=546&cat=166&page=1

looks like everything needed turbowise... gonna try 780s + wally 190lph any objections or constructive criticism? Im looking to stay around $1500ish for the whole setup.

You need to get a safc w/logger or dsmlink if you plan to install those injectors. I would go with a 255lhp and afpr instead of a 190lph.

Hope this helps

I second the node that you need a fuel management / tuning system with this setup.

780's are a nice size and will leave room to upgrade the turbo in the future if you wanted. How are you planning on controlling them though?

DSMLink will have no problems and you may even want to go larger as their pretty close to the same price & that way you'll never have to upgrade injectors. If your planning on a piggyback system such as the SAFC, 780's are pushing it, you'll get too much timing advance, unless you use it in combo with an EPROM chip for injector comp.

The 190 Fuel Pump should be fine if you don't plan on making more then 400 whp. If you want more go 255 with FPR. As for the T04b vtrim turbo, I know a couple guys on here where having problems with that setup & no matter what they did they couldn't prevent it from surging & traded it for bullseye 50 trim. It probably had something to do with their particular setup as a lot of guys run the T04b without any issues but something to consider.

Thanks to all for the replies.. I have found a bullseye super 50 trim (used) that Im trying to get info on right now. I dont plan on making that much power as we only have 91 octane here in CO and I dont have a clue where I would get anything better. I dont really plan on going to the track just something to keep me amused on a daily basis. I will be going with DSMlink, but have to look if the ecu is an eprom or not. I have a 255 wally for a 1g and have another post to find out if its compatible.
