why do you need a re-wire kit for these fuel pumps?

The stock wires are too small to carry the amount of amperage the pump draws. My car would actually start leaning out as rpm climbed until I ran 10ga wire from the bat to a relay then pump and a 10ga ground right from the pump. That solved the issue.

You don't technically need one. It's just a good idea to rewire any pump for more flow.

And you don't have to buy a kit to do it if you are going to, it's just a little easier than gathering up everything you'll need piece by piece.
