Hello fellow DSMer's. Just thought I'd see what your opinions are on the 2003 Tiburons. I'm a salesperson at a Hyundai dealership and we've really been selling the Tiburon lately. It seems like they're picking up in popularity with the young tuning crowd. A couple of guys have already done the usual upgrades; exhaust, intake, wheels. One guy even got a 50 shot hooked up. What do you guys think of the car?

Check this one out!

I'm happy for the redesign. Looks a hell of a lot better then the previous model. Funny thing is that I have friend who purchased a GT (she is into sport bikes), because it was reasonablle for price and had a little get go to it. Well 4 months after she got it her boyfriend went to an aftermarket shop to get an idea of what to do to it, turns out the GT with the V6 badging only had a 4 cyl engine in it. Car goes back to dealership and after much debating she gets them to accept it back and in return comes out with a Santa Fe.

wow... that's some quality manufacturing for ya.

I've seen that happen when we were a Mitsubishi dealer. We sold a guy a GT Eclipse in 01. When we were going over the car, we popped the hood and it was the 2.4L. The car even had the wheels and ground effects of the GT. It was even priced as a GT! What a headache.

Anyway, did hers have the GT wheels or the Infinity stereo, that would have been a dead giveaway.

Everything was listed as a Tib GT. Had all the badging for it, everything was identical to the ones they originally had looked at. She finally got the dealership to take responsibility after like a month of going back and forth.

So, the Tiburon is a sports car how? Did someone mention that the tib has over steer because the torquey motor spins the tires? It's FWD! That makes tire spin an UNDER-steer situation. Under-steer is not desirable. Neither is the shifter in the Tiburon GT I sat in. The shifter felt vague and cheap. When I got back into my Talon, I thought Hyundai had tried to punish me. And how much does the car weigh? Why is it so heavy? Typically, heavy sport cars are high in HP. And they corner. They are never FWD.

thank you :thumb:

I test drove one, the 6-speed... It was really nice all around. My friend like it alot... I thought it was sluggish when accelrating.

I like how it looks, but after reading the Sport Compact Car review against 11 other competing cars, it was pretty sad to see the V6 Tiburon was the 2nd slowest.

That is pretty pathetic, considering nearly all of the cars it was up against were NA 4 cylinders. Hyundai needs to give the car some balls if it wants to compete.

best damn bang for ur buck on the sports car market today, and that warranty....schweeet. car and driver rated it good as hell, a v6 in a tight lookin box, killer warranty, good options.......plus under 20 g's.... shiet its a poor mans ferrari! id get it if i was in the states!

Hey guys, I can't believe this thread is still goin! That's good though. A word on power, it's the first year. I think Hyundai will step up the power on the next year or so. I spoke with a Hyundai rep at Carlisle at the show and he said a supercharged version could be reality making about 250 HP out of the GT V6. I know I could sell that!!! And test drive as much as possible. All the feedback has been cool.:thumb:

I had a 2000 tiburon...I love it to death. But I wouldnt trade my gst for it though. The new design is great looking, but the only thing I dont like about hyundai is some of thier quality. I had alot of interior stuff fall apart. Great looks but like said before needs more power before I consider buying another tiburon.

could be a reality.... i'll believe it when i see it.

i love the look but would prob go for the four banger with the six speed?(doubt thats a option) friends got the 2002 tib with the 4 and he says he hears its a good turbo charge ..iron block or something?

Well, if I was going to buy a new car (which I never would, for a few reasons) I would check it out. It does look nice, I would definately debadge it and start working on the power. Man if it came with a turbo it would be sweet. I love turbo though, the next car I will get most likely will be the evolution, the price (what there saying anyway) is great, in the low 20's I believe, sub 5 second 0-60 plus its got the 4G63! Which has just proven to be (to me) one of the best motors out there.

So its a good looking car, performs reasonably well (Even though I think for a v6 it should be putting out like 250, at least 225) I wouldnt knock anyone for buying one at all. I hate the new eclipses and how they got rid of the turbo too.

I dont know about the newer hyundais, but I used to work at an auto auction, and drove all types of cars. Every single hyundai I got into drove like shit and had transmission problems, especially the automatics. Most of these cars had less than 60k miles on them too and werent all wrecked up. The ones I drove looked almost new. So though Ive never owned one, I dont think too highly of there build quality. I mean I drove a 85 mercedes (I know its a benz) turbo diesel with over 300k miles on it and it ran 10x better. There is something to be said about build quality. 10 year warranty is a good thing though :)

for 1k more you could have an SRT-4 and have "215" the reason for the marks is every SRT dynoed has more wheel hp than that.
