As the title says, I'm only getting about 200 miles per tank of gas. And thats on the highway. Even with my lead foot, I think I should be getting at least 300 or more. I just recently had the TPS and IAC sensors replaced as well as new plugs and wires. I also have a hard UICP with a Greddy BOV. Could there be too much air going in and creating a bottleneck? Any help would be great. This is costing way too much. Thanks.

Mine may not be a GSX but my GST will get me from seattle to Spokane on 3/4 of tank and thats rompin on it and racing hondas the whole way. That trip incase some of you dont know is like 290 some odd miles. And I still roll in to town on a 1\4 tank. And another thing, How can you drive a turbo'ed car around everyday and not use boost? Why would you own a turbo'ed car otherwise? I cant do it. I love that turbo way too much :p .

Are you sure you don't have any fuel leaks anywhere? Cause that is some hella shitty ass mileage.

yea no fuel leaks. trust me i checked EVERYTHING...i even tried staying out of boost as much as possible (as per boost gauges) just staying in vacuum. i drove like an old lady for a tank and that didn't make a difference....maybe its cuz i'm auto awd? i dunno, whatever i guess i will have to live with it....

Did you check your O2 sensor?

I have not checked the O2 sensor yet. I'll have to do thet at work on Monday. Thanks for all the replys.

Weight don't mean shit once the car is accelerated. . At highway speeds, the primary loading is aerodynamic and 2G's are what .31 C/D?

Yeah it does, think of pushing a baloon at 5mph constant and pushing a car at 5mph constant.

drive 5 mph under the speed limit,
try to get up to 5th gear as quickly as possible,
dont downshift as much.

im sure that if you follow all of these steps, you will get better gas mileage.

If i wanted to do this, I would have a big pink H on the front of my car and not a 255lph fuel pump!

So I had to take a ride to Portland, ME today, which is like 65 miles each way.I started the trip with 3/4s of a tank. 130 miles later, gas gauge reads empty. Funny thing though, no gas dummy light, and half-way home, the CEL came on. Time to have the mechanic at work take a look at it for me I guess.

With my 91 Talon AWD, I got over 300 miles to the tank. I have a lead foot and it still translated to 22-24 mpg. It had 120,xxx on the clock. My 90 laser rs-t gets 25-26 out on the interstate. It's got 167,xxx on it and I use the boost.... Good luck on finding the problem. Sorry to hear about your woes

wrong. i took a full load (3 passengers and myself, including bags) on a 4-5 hour trip. i had to fill up once when i only had a 1/4 of a tank left, and i used about another 1/4 to get the rest of the way there. on the way back, they took a different car and i went home alone. i had more then 1/4 tank left on zero refills.

i usually fill up at 250 miles..and by then, it takes 10 gallons, and the fuel gauge is sitting between Empty and 1/4 tank..i get around 25 miles/ gallon.. i have a vented BOV too :thumbdown .. not my decision... i'm working on getting it recirculated because of the effects of it ;) ...

Back to the comment that droopy made about the gas gauge. I spoke with one of the techs at work today,(he used to work for mitsu) and he said that the gauges do go bad but its usually someone doing something with the cluster. Someone has been in there, so I took the cluster apart and moved the gas needle up. Is it supposed to move on its own, or should it stay where I put it? I am thinking its the gauge, not actual mileage thats the problem, as I have yet to see the dummy light come on.

on my 92tsi and with it's current mods I can get 29mpg for cruzing on the highway at 75-80mph :thumb:

mods: 50trim, port & polish head, 264/272 cams, maft, and all other bolts-on.

well, hopefully,

eviltalon, i hope you are getting a lil bit better gas mileage. On my drive from chicago to sacramento, i was getting about 270 miles to 10-11 gallons of gas. that was right after i put a bottle of Redline fuel system cleaner in my tank. It made my car throw a CEL for the oxygen sensor, but it cleared itself after 30 minutes.

EVILTALON, do you have ur egr valve blocked off?

ive read that blocking off the egr valve might cost you mpg noticeably somewhat.

The gas gauges do suck. Mine reads empty when I'm down to 4 gallons. Try filling your tank and reset your trip meter go driving and then see how much gas it takes for your next fill up and use that to figure out mileage.

Have you checked base timing?

That's exactly what I get - 200 to 225 miles to a 15.9gal gas tank. It costs me $35 average to fill up my tank too with crappy 91 octane.

I used my brother's RSX for a week and it gets around 28-30 miles a gallon - and it only costs 20 bucks to fill its tank!!

I don't have my egr valve blocked. I have very minamal mods done, so its very strange. I'm wondering if I should never have bought this car to begin with :thumbdown

if you want to rule out lead foot as the issue, simply unhook the wastegate arm. You'll never get boost, and you'll find that you likely get better mileage.

As for possible issues, check timing marks on the cams, make sure you didn't slip a tooth, and check base timing if you are a 1st gen that can.

The more you retard timing off boost, the longer the lag, the worse the mileage. Course you have little option if you want 25psi on pump and won't go standalone or DSMLINK.

also, those of you with insanely bad mileage- what are you using to meter air?
