After months of trying and trying I am stuck and thinking of selling.

Problem: horrible bogging down under boost to the point where the car will bog down so much till it almost stops untill i let off the gas

Things I have checked/tried: Complete tune-up, plugs, wires, fuel & air filters, pcv. Boost leak test

Mods: Fmic, k&n filter, autometer boost guage

Heres the thing, when this mas is plugged in, the car runs fine untill under boost. Under boost it bogs down horrible as decirbed above. When i unplug the mas the car runs like a raped ape. So strong and smooth and everything, feels like a 10sec car. but when its unplugged the gas milage is horrible, im saying like 8 mpg, but of course you can expect that with no mas. I changed the mas twice and still does the same thing????????

like I said im desprite, and i have 20 bucks in my paypal........

p.s. im positive its not a boost leak, and i just cant leave the mas unplugged because gas is too expense and so are new plugs every week

If i were you i would replace that hunk of crap 1g MAS and get a 2g or a GM MAS. That is what the problem is. I had the same problem with my old 1g MAS. Until i replaced it with a 2g and an SAFC 2, now it flows gooooooood. :talon: :thumb:

You can PM me if im right..

Place the FPR vac/boost reference line directly to the intake bung instead of routing through the solenoid.

O.K. heres whats been going on rushing to get this done before school starts on monday
:thumbdown

Last week I took my car to the local cryslar stealership in town and they returned the car beck to me two days later and told me they had no clue and bring it to mitsu.

So... i decided to check the plug into the mas sensor and the results as follows:
plug 2 = 5.1v
plug 3 = 12.1v
plug 4 = 5.1v

i checked with the hanyes manual and everything there is good

Now im stuck and still have no idea if im doing this boost leak test right or not.

In last resort I am ordering a reman. mas sensor through work and im gonna hook it up in the parking lot and see if the 3 i put on were bad ( just in case, makes me sleep better)

I think im gonna sell my car soon, anyone looking for a tsi awd with 133k and fmic? :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

I really think you should try to replace that 1g MAS with a 2g or a GM sensor before you try and sell it. I had the same problem and fixed it with the same solution. On the other hand you might want to try and replace the fuel filter and maybe a bigger pump before you sell your car. If the filter is clogged it may be holding back pressure that you need, as well as the pump from supplying the engine with fuel.

have you tried checking your timing and coil pack. i had kinda the same problem started to act wierd everyonce in a while and then just went to shit. turns out coilpack was fubar'd and it have jumped a couple of teeth in the timing belt. good luck to yah and dont sell it because a week later you will wish you hadnt :dsm:

UPDATE:

Today is my day off and I am going to check alot of things,
1. Check the coilpack and plugs and wires
2. Going to pressure check the whole i.c. system then break it down peice by peice to really check on last time for leaks
3. If i have time im gonna check the gaskets on the t.b. and intake mani
4. If i have time im gonna check for exhuast leaks
5. I am still waiting for the reman. mas sensor to come to work

I have been thinking and the only thing that no one can answer is WHY WOULD THE CAR ACT FINE WHEN THE MAS IS UNPLUGGED??? Am I tricking the computer, am I really not boosting 10 psi or so??? My boost guage is saying 9-11 psi depending on how cold it is outside, so I am thinking I am running full boost. If the Mas is unplugged then the circut goes into open loop right? It just defaults to a certain parameter and runs off that? I wish i knew more about the whole computer/mas system but obviously the dealer did not know either.

I know im ranting but this car is getting under my skin quick!!!! :thumbdown

Anyway, thanks alot guys you have been helpful, as soon as I find out what the problem is the first person that stated it on this thread is getting paypal.......

Fuel filter was changed the day after i bought the car, the fuel pump seems to be fine since It works great when the mas is unplugged

You really need to datalog the car and post the log.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

I have a gauge but I havent hooked it up yet, what will this tell me?

I think if nothing else works soon i might have to get a datacable and palmpocket and see whats going on.... looks like a last resort now...

i had a very similar problem... i got an engine code, bogged down bad when in boost.
This was my problem... 1" gash in lower IC pipe.

dunno if it will help... but check it... this problem took out 2 master technicians... they couldnt findthe problem.

Well, for starters, it'll tell you if your fuel pressure is 1:1 in the first place. It'll also tell you if it's dropping off for some reason.

Logging the car will probably tell you what's wrong in about 5 minutes.

If ithe MAS is unplugged then obviously the ECU can no longer determine the correct amount of Air being injested. I assume (as is the case with the Knock Sensor) that the ECU will run a very conservative default Ignition Timing and Fuel map so that the car is drivable.

Yes it may seem faster.. but the car would be that much faster if (whatever the problem really is) was corrected.

remember the saying.. the car always feels fastest right before it blows up ;)
