Hey, i am new to these forums and i saw that the 2.4L stratus block will fit into a 2nd gen N/T with minor modifications, i have a almost completely stock car (intake and suspension) and my engine just packed it in. spun number 2 and number 3 rod bearings and the idler pulley on the timing belt blew apart. (head is still good, no bent valves)

I am looking for a new engine and i thought while im at it i will swap in a 2.4L block so that later down the road i can swap in a set of srt-4 internals and turbo this boat.

If anyone knows what needs to be dont to fit this, please feel free to post up. or if anyone knows of someone that has done this please post pics and the persons user name.

Thanks
Btw i have a red 95 eagle talon in great shape, (besides the blown engine), and i live in the hamilton area in ontario, canada.

In the event that it does fit, your better off going with a SRT4 engine over a stratus block with SRT4 internals for the sheer fact that it would cost more and it's a PITA + modifications.

nah srt engines cost too much and the crank trigger wheels are totally different. i wont be doing megasquirt for a while, and the stratus engine seems to "bolt right up with minor modifications" where as the srt engine would require alot more work, including wiring and the oil galleries not lining up. (from head to block)

My older brother has a neon and he has a 2.4L from the stratus in that which required alot of misc. parts and mount adapters to make fit into the neon.

I was wondering if it will be the same way with the talon.
ie: passednger side engine mount, alternator brackets, power steering brackets, does the oil filter clear when the wheel is turned left to lock postion? hood clearance? just a few things that i am wondering about with the instal into the 2nd gen talon.

Hope theres someone out there that has done this before.

Thanks
Zach

-Passenger side motor mount fab. Either with a SRT bracket or Stratus bracket
-Oil pan fab. Have to make room for the exhuast.
-Alternator brackets are easy, no fabbing there.
-I don't plan on using P/S or A/C so you will have to research that.
-Swap injector pins and coil pack pins at the harness plug. At first, it was to move the injector clips down one (e.g. 4 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 1, 1 to 4) but eventially firgured out that was wrong. If you read the thread below, it will show you how to swap the pins at the ECU plug. But remember, that's for a neon and the pin out is NOT the same for a 2Gnt. 2Gnt.com has a pin-out somewhere, so figure out what you have to do, and apply that to the correct pin-out sheet. I'm making this sound more complicated than it really is, if you know which wires to switch, it takes 5 minutes.

Of course i'm not going into detail at all. But that's the "jist" of things.

It's for a swap into a neon but will answer most of the question you have.

Edit: Here's a pic of my SRT pan. Just for a visual.

Stratus coupe has the 2.4L Mitsubishi engine found in 3g Eclipses and 8g Galants. Its different in every aspect from the SRT engine. If you saw the thread about Evo9 engine in 2g N/A, but the Stratus coupe engine is identical to the Evo engine, so the Stratus engine is 100% bolt on. youre gonna need custom bell housing so you can use your stock tranny with the Stratus engine

Yes the oil pan on my brothers 2.4L is steel and it has the indent already there as thats where he runs the charge piping (his is turbo). I think this should give me enough room to fit the exhaust right under there.

rotating the cam 90 degrees and swapping the coil wires and the injector wires is no big deal. Will this swap require the 24lb/hr injectors or a different fuel pressure regulator like the neon 2.4L swap requires?

Sorry for all the questions guys, just trying to verify whats needed to do so with these cars. I am trying to do this on a very strict budget if at all possible. LOL

Thanks
Zach

No offense but a very strict budget will easily hinder your plans. I approached a simple stock budget rebuild with the same mindset, and I'm still dishing out money and the motor is running.

okay so as i have read the only thing needed to modify is the passenger side engine mount, and the wiring. Well i will see if i can come across a cheap 2.4L, but if not for now it will just be a 2.0L and maybe in the summer when they have those all you can carry days at the junk yard i will pull another engine then.

As for the budget thing i know it is very easy to get carried away with spending lots of money, but i try and find all kinds of deals on new and used parts as well as making things and working with what i have.

If theres anything else that i have missed with doing the swap please let me and others know.

Thanks

1995-2000 the 2.4 is similar to the neon motor. the 2001-2005 is a 4g64
