I was wondering if I could do a bottom end swap for my 99 GS. I was told that a 2.4 bottom end from a Spyder, PT Cruiser, SRT4 would work on a my 420a. I want to get some more HP and I have done everything short of a rebuild. So does anyone know what bottom end will fit on my engine ? I do know that some top end parts from a PT Cruiser will fit. I am not sure exactly how much of a step up those parts are but I have seen some write ups about people doing the top end swap. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks, Tim:dsm:

Hey man... trust me, you do NOT want to ask this question without doing any research or searching at all... :nono: There are a TON of threads about this exact topic... Here are a couple that you can look through...

But trust me, unless you want to get flamed hardcore by the moderators or just other members, use the search button here on Tuners or at http://www.2gnt.com/ I'm a nice guy and I've been in your position before and I've been flamed for the n00b questions... It's not fun... Trust me... I don't know how to do this swap, but I've seen a lot of threads about it, so sorry I can't answer your question... So use the search first before EVER posting a question, you'll be better off. Hopefully you find your answers! :thumb:

What you are looking at doing is by no means a simple feat. I cant go into all the specifics here because you would be looking at 2 years worth of info and R&D collected and put into one post..LOL

Here is some very useful info for you to start with and do some reading up on.

Spyder 2.4: This is a 4g64 motor and no way can the bottom end be used.
PT Cruiser: Very good 2.4 bottom end to start with, this block you can use.
SRT-4: This 2.4 is different, it has different mounting holes and would take much more work to use. I am sure you can use this if you are willing to do more fabrication.

You can also use the 2.4 block from the sebring. that is the same style block as the PT Cruiser and much easier to come by in a junk yard.

The 2.4 requires a great deal of fabrication and there isnt just 1 way to do things. You will need to make a custom bracket/mount for the passenger side. You will use your 2.0 head. The water pipe in your 2.0 will have to be altered and fabricated. The Alternator mounts will need to be fabricated as well as the p/s brackets. You would need to fabricate the brackets if you choose to retain the A/C.

The SRT-4 oil pump and Oil pan are commonly used; however the SRT-4 oil pan is much larger due to the balence shafts that are in the 2.4. These shafts are not used in the swap. In order to make room for your Downpipe/exhaust to pass under the motor, you will need to cut and weld the Oil Pan to make it smaller. Since the oil pan is aluminum, you will need to have it tig welded if you dont tig weld yourself.

The 2.4 has a different firing pattern. You must rewire the injectors and rotate the cam magnet on the exhaust cam. If this magnet is 1* off the engine will not start. Its that touchy.

There is so much more but this gives you an idea of the level of complexity this swap requires. This is something some of us on 2GNT are doing but it does require a great deal of work. I hope to start the fab work just after the Shootout.
