has anyone else experienced this. when I put it in Neutral take the clutch out, put the clutch back in and shift directly into first, the tranny grinds EVERY TIME! is this a common thing with our cars and also is it bad? ( by the way, I do this when I am at the ATM machine or something like that)
 
Dont know if this is common or not but I've been getting the same thing just recently. I havent observed it after being in neutral but I occasionally get a first gear grind after the car has sat for a couple hours.

Anyone else get this? I did put in a new clutch about 6 or so months ago which was pretty painless, so Im unsure as to why it would be acting up now. I also have a 2g so Im sure things are mechanically a little different but anyone know why we may be getting this??
 
i get it too. and sometimes it pops put off reverse or feels like its in revers but just grinds when i try to move
 
I get this too. It only happens when I am sitting in nutral and I try to do a quick shit into first. If I shift into 1st slow than I don't get the grind. I am not exactly sure what causes it. I don't think it is a big deal. We just need to face the fact that our cars don't have the smoothest transmissions.
 
yea i get it 2, i think its because of the high gear ratio and bad syncro's that dsm puts in their trannys, but then again i dont know anything so dont take my advice.
 
odes it to me too. just put it in second then first every time you neutralit. thenno more grind. also i have to baby reverse or it pops out.
 
When i was having trouble with it it was the shift linkage, they were going bad. they way to check is to pull of the console, and check the rods/ also try lubricating them if they look like thier still giood.
 
mine does both first gear grind and reverse pop out too, but the way i usually stop it is to shift into second then into first... and shift into fourth before reverse... it becomes a habbit and you dont grind as much. :thumb:
 
I've never had any problems with my tanny or clutch. 150k.
I use B&M trick shift in the actual transmission smooths stuff out alot. Only grindage I've ever gotten was only partially disengagin the clutch while shifting, only happend once

Almost any car will do this. The gears in the transmission coast. You can avoid it by not doing that, giving it a chance to stop spinning (about three seconds pause), or developing the habit of "snubbing" the gearbox by pressing against second before sliding into first.

Whaaaaa? You're refering to DSMs, right?
The only manual transmission car I ever owned that did this was my old 1G NT Talon when it needed a transmission rebuild. After the rebuild is was perfect again.

yes shift 2nd then first everytime and u wil have no more grind
