Got the turbo out on the local dragday. Just wanted to get some break in runs. No hard launches (2.0's to 2.2's range). No speed shifts. Got a few runs in. Started off with a 13.241 (didn't even go in the water box). Best run of 12.438 (had a heads up race so I put a little into it).

Meh, not too bad for the stocker cams and 20ish pounds. Got an idea now of where I need to go. Figure this current set-up and tune is good for at least high 11's.

Oh yeah, set-up;

10.5 JE's (About 9k on them, LOL)
Eagle rods
PT Cruiser valve train
1mm Indy (?) valves
Mario Port and Polish
STOCK cams
OBX Intake
60 mm TB
BW 366
3" exhaust
Mark Peachy shortie Exhaust mani
PWR W/A intercooler (with tiny FMIC for it)
Quaife
DSS 2 axles
880's
MSnS
Dual 255 Walbro's

I guess thats the important stuff. Much more like 1/2 rad and 13.5 battery etc. but that'll do

o man! I thought this was a new N/A record cause I just noticed the times and your name. LOL

any plans for turbo cams?

quick question if i run a 7.3 in the 1/8 at 97 mph what kind of 1/4 mile time should i run. where we live there is only a 1/8 track.

Check the 1/4 mile times in the drag racing section and find some comparable numbers. that will get you close to an idea (LOL, oh yeah, the drag racing section is a little further down from our 420a section :D).

Thanks guys, like I said this is just the start to the process. I now have enough input to choose my cams. I'm actually going with the Crower 2's NA. I will also be changing out the intake (don't know which one yet). Then we can up some fuel and boost and see where we go from there.

I may get her out again this year just to work the launch.

Funny thing, I ended up driving her back from a buddy's place (we used his 3 car trailer). I ran out of gas at the track (tuned to 110 octane) so I put 93 octane in her and drove her home, LOL. No problems, no bucking, no noticeable knocking BUT I didn't do more than 4lbs of boost. I guess my point being that 10.5 is not as scary as some make it out to be.

that REALLY makes me wana do my 2.4+10.5+turbo swap! I CANT CHOOSE!

was tuning the 10.5 and turbo any harder than a stock or 8.x set up would be?

O SHIP! 100th POST! W00T!

Not for me, LOL. Because of what I'm doing, I have Matt from Dentsport out of Ma doing the tuning. I just don't want to have my inexperience become another variable. Guy is hands down one of the best. Of course, that allows us to have an msq of a 10.5 turbo engine set-up to play with for start up :thumb:

Hey This may seem trivial but what kind of tires were you running on the track, and when you drove it home.

Somehow Rand you seem to ask the bestest questions.

In this case you were right about the tire choice being trivial. Because I was not working the launch, it didn't really matter if I was running slicks or drag radials. But I was running my usual 24.5 MT's. Never cooked them up.

BUT, funny thing, when I went to pick up my car from my buddy's place (with the 3 car trailer, about 20 miles away) I forgot that I had left the slicks on, LOL. Welllllll....me being me, and it being dark out, yes, I filled up the slicks with 25lbs of air and away we went, LOL. Hey I trapped at 117 with those :p (Eh, they were getting old anyway)

Wait I'm confused, did Bullett redo his 2G with a turbo, or is this another car? I always thought his NA was awesome, but if it is his 2G redone than I'd be sad hehe. One thing I can say though is that speed is too addicting =D

Oh okay. I figured that. I like turbo DSM's, but his NA machine is one of a kind IMO and is jjust cool as hell

Hey Mark, I'm also in the market for some aftermarket cams for my current turbo build, and I'm curious to know why you decided to pick Crower 2's. I don't know much about 420a aftermarket cams and I'm trying to gather some good Intel. Thanks in advance

hey bullett, make sure to put up some videos of this beast man...

My sister claims she got my runs. I'm waiting for her to post them up on Youtube.

How much timing are you pulling?

Pulling timing? I'm adding timing, LOL (for those that didn't get it, I was just joking. Alluding to the fact that MSnS can do anything). MSnS. I gotta get the laptop out to check my MSQ. I will hopefully get a pic of my spark box. I'll get that into here (Yeah, I know Paul, you're still waiting on me :coy:).

And what is 20ish pounds, none sense, I need a real number, LOL.

Whatsamatta, you don't think "ish" is an accurate unit of measurement :p? 1st time out with the turbo, I blew off a lower intercooler coupler (worm clamp) dropped the psi down considerably (around 12 "ish") and still was blowing it off, so I called it a day. When I went back (at our dragday) I still had the boost controller set at 12, so I cranked it back up to 20"ish". Because I was working both the Turbo and the NA that day, the laptop kinda got put by the wayside and I wasn't logging. Here's where I learned something that day; I hate goofy gauges showing all over so I put my gauge in what I thought was a neat spot (radio spot). Not so neat when you are racing. In glancing at it I was right around 20 but not positive, hence the 20ish ;)[/quote]

Oh yeah, are you running the stock trans or Neon 3.55?

adammethner05 got it right, 3.55. Funny thing though, like the NA with the 3.94, I am still stuck between 3rd and 4th. Even though she trapped at 117 I couldn't get to 4th without losing time.

Jeez, all that question answering and you didn't even get to mine :( LOL
Oh crap you're absolutely right, LOL.

In looking at my dyno and running the 1/4 I want some more power extended up top (my set-up is geared toward top end power). I like the Crowers 2's because the lift isn't too drastic but the duration is extended a bit. IMO the turbo grind Crower's a little too much lift and not quite enough duration. The Crower 1's are just not enough. That's the short of it.

Keep in mind that this does go against some others opinions of cutting back on duration for boosted apps.

Thanks for the quick reply, be sure to let us know how the Crower 2s work out for you. I'm sure you'll end up with results way before I even buy cams, so that'll help sway my opinion in one direction or another. Although I'm putting together a pretty lame setup compared to yours (basically a Hahn S16g with FMIC kit I've pieced together and 8.6:1 comp built motor), I'd still like to look into some cams in the future.

Well, not the best of vid's but you get the idea. Sister's got a good heart;

1st run of the day. No water pit, no launch, short shifts (it does say 13.24 I believe, LOL)

YouTube - 420a turbo Eclipse

Fastest run of the day (12.4@117mph). Again the guy thought he could beat me this time (we have had, over the years, a friendly rivalry. He couldn't beat the NA, but he had put something into her that he thought he could beat the turbo now, LOL. All in fun).

YouTube - 420a turbo eclipse runs a 12.43

Just for starters.

wow awesome times bro !!!!!!!:thumb:

wut kind of fuel system you got ??

and how hard was to install that obx intake im thinkin about getting one too :D

Thanks. Ah, a little more info I forgot, eh? Lets see dual 255 walbros with -8an line (of course Earl's filter) up to rail. Welded fitting to stock rail, FIC 880's. Welded -6an return fitting, using stock line for return. Aeromotive Fuel regulator running 38psi.

The OBX is a pretty tight fit and I had to drill out for the stock map (I ran it on the stock ECU for awhile). Its OK. I had to do some alterations to it (2GNT.com - OBX_Intake_Install).
