Going to run 17x9's w/255/40/17 tires on my car... but the wheels/tires stick out about an inch in the front and rear!! I was wondering if anyone knows of a nice widebody or fender flare kit for the 1gA. I searched the forums and the internet and couldn't find any nice ones that i could buy. Is there anyone that has them on their 1ga cars that could post a pic?? i've been considering making my own flares for a while now.... but can't really decide on a style of flare.... i've looked at replicating a 350z style flare and an evo style box flare. is there anyone good with photoshop that could photoshop a set of flares on my car to give me an idea??? :thumb:

Thanks!!!

i say jsut keep the wheels you got now, it will be hard to find a widebody or fender flares and they will most likly look ugly on the car

I think that wider wheels would equate to a wider tire contact patch. Think about it awd with wider wheels equals faster times and handeling all around. ;)

Drop the car, run more negative camber, and roll+pull the fenders with a fender rolling tool. 9" isn't very wide.

Either that or get bolt on fender flares for an S13. There used to be that red 1G picture in japan with the bolt on flares and mesh black wheels/blacked out corner/sorta headlights. Looked good.

The only fender flares I've ever seen that "work" on a 1G are the ones Aerocomp Racing did for their car running 10" wide rims:

You can tell that they really didn't change much - just extended the stock fender lines to be a little wider than original. But the fender flares are the least of the custom work done on that car.

More about that car here.

But before you go hacking up your clean DSM, I'd be questioning whether you really need 9" rims - unless you're pushing Shepherd/Rau horsepower numbers or are deadly serious about some grip on the autocross or road course, I'd say the stock wheelwells are plenty big for whatever you'd need.

You know whats funny ? This car was the insperation for my hood ,I copied it and now it's on my talon pics are coming within A month anybody wanna host?

IMO fender flares on a 1G would look mean as hell, if you can, get some, bolt them up and then fill in the gaps so it would flow as though it were one unit. If I had the ability, I'd do it just for the stance you would have afterward. :thumb:

I have 225/45/17's on my car and i have no problems .. the tires are right on the sides of the car perfect .. the only time you can see a face of the tire is if you look at the car head on .. the bumper angles in at the bottom so obviously towards the bottom half of the whel you can see the front of the tire (this is squatting in front of the beast)

ps .. im stock height ..

is it because of your wheel depth?

Well, as long as they're on the car - have you seen our lovely gallery?

Well thank you for that very informative link as i will def make use of it , Now if only I could upload a pic with the proper dimensions then I'll be grooving. :p

P.s I've been looking for some aggressive looking fender flares my self so if you by any chance find any shoot a link my way.

my reason for going with such wide tires is not the traction needed for drag racing... if i was going to drag the car i'd run 15" wheels with slicks... i'm building my car for road coarse and autoX. with my current setup of 17x8 i can only run a maximum of 245's on them... i need just a little bit more tire to compensate for the power of new setup that i'll be running on the car. besides... the more tire... the better... right?? I wan't to do the flares because the car will look funny with wheels sticking out. don't want the "lowrider" look on my car. :D

question .. do you already have the 225's and you are putting on 245's? or are you just assuming that 225's will stick out a bit from other pictures and stuff? cause if you want to i can take a picture of my tires real fast so you can see if thats the case..

lemme know .. :)

if you already have them and the stick out its probably the offset on the wheels .. min maybe slide in more before the wheel hits the hub .

One thing .. i dont think you can run 245's on a 1g .. at least i dont think i could .. unless the profile was like 40r or something .. or if the tires were for wheels smaller than 17's .. my 225's barely fit in there in the front without rubbing .. :(

I am running 245/40/17 on a 17x8 w/ 40mm offset right now...with out rubbing anywhere. The car is lowered about 1.5" in the front and 2 inches in the rear.....i also have coil overs so i don't have a lower perch to worry about. my alignment specs... FRONT: -1.6 degrees camber with +6 degrees of caster & 0 degrees of toe. REAR: 0 degrees Toe, and 0 degrees camber. As for roll centers, the rear of the car sits 1/2 of an inch lower in the rear than the front of the car. :thumb: :dsm:

All Wheel Drive, 8" wide rims, & some good, sticky tires... you shouldn't have traction issues.

as for fender flares, i guess if you widened the body about an inch, and had it all molded and painted it might go OK. just don't go as drastic as the red car pictured above. interesting, but overkill IMO

what do you guys think about this one?? I had flares like these in mind... but without all the glorified bumpers and side skirts. just clean and more blended like the red car above... opinions?

with just the flares... not the rest of it... i could live with it. i still think your car is very clean looking the way it is... but if you want the 9" rims and fender flares, go for it man!

iwant those fenders they look nice even with the bumber that is way to big.i cant find body kits that look good for 1g's :dsm:

for use in AutoX... molding on side flares doesn't sound like a good idea anyways becuase of the abuse it will see on the track. all the chassis flex etc will wreck havoc on the flares.

just get some nice autox race tires (kumho or BFGs) on some wide rims for race day. who cares what it looks like when your kicking ass out on the course! then put on your nice looking wheels for the ride home or the next day for street use.
