Hi,

I was just looking for any info anybuddy had on upgradig the headlights on my 1990 Talon. I want to upgrade the headlights becasue I am going to be getting rid of the fog lights do to a large intercooler, and the stock headlights are not that good. I do not want difffernt colors and stuff like that or ones that look nice I just want to upgrade them to make them brighter. Thanks a lot.

Convert to H4 (if not already done, Im not sure if the popups use H4s or sealed beam), that alone will make a HUGE improvment, but if its still not enough, get some 130w h4 bulbs. You'll need to rewire the headlights to use these (or have your stock wiring burn up, your choice :D ), and its not even near legal.

If you want HID, its gonna be expensive. Hella sells a sealed beam -> HID kit for $400 each side. Completley street legal, and the best beam pattern and lighting you will get. Just throwing in some rebased p32d HID bulbs and balasts from ebay is NOT a good idea, so if you were thinking about that, don't do it.

I would of gotten HID's or H4's if I just needed bulbs but the 90-91 DSMs have headlamps, so I need the whole lamp not just the light bulb. That is why I am having a problm. The only ones that I have found through my search are ones like this: http://store.racinglab.com/raysquartyps.html Is that all I will find or are there other types out there.

I just installed the HELLAS in my 91 talon with some super white piaa bulbs. I would def
recommend. :thumb: As for the ebay h4 conversion, they are not the same. the hellas have a reflector in front of the bulb so you don't blind the person in front of you. they are cheaper though. :)

I hate to chime in on a 3 day old thread but if you do the h4 conversion kit you can of course get just about any wattage bulb you want 80-100 or 90-110 work really well and are bright but not bright enough to attract unwanted attention.

the biggest difference you can get from headlights for the money is definatly to run a relay kit and some nice guage wire directly from the battery, this especially helps on higher wattage bulbs where the stock wiring can't keep up. its also nice on cars that are as old as ours where the wiring is starting to get old and not in the greatest shape, with a little bit of knowledge you can make a nice relay setup for any type of headlight plugin for about 30 bucks and a few hours of time

i swear by the stock-replacement silviastars. why bother doing all the converting and kitness (yes i made that word up, heh) when there direct replacements. its not like your lights are going to burn out every year costing you $, unless you use crappy h-4 rice bulbs.... ;)

They make silverstars in a sealed beam style, so its just the 4 screws, in, out. and you done.

I have them, they're a lot better than stock. Keep in mind that better than horrible still isn't great. :thumb:

If I had done a little research first I would have gotten the Hella conversion instead :thumb:

I've looked at using either the Hella or Cibie E-code H4 conversions for a while now. You don't want to use any of the cheap e-Bay conversions because their light patterns leave a lot to be desired. I wound up putting the Silverstar sealed beams in last winter because I found a deal on both lights for $20. At that price I couldn't pass it up. I put H4's in when these burn out.

The Silverstars are much better than regular Halogen sealed beams but it's still lacking.

I did this conversion... But now the highbeam indicator light in my gauge cluster is always on. Did any of you guys have this problem?

you have it wired wrong!!! make sure you have the ground, high and low in the right spots. I don't have the ebay kit, but I had the same problem with the Hellas until I fixed the wiring :thumb:

Thanks! I kinda figured that, but my car is getting a waterpump and timing belt job done on it so I'll have to wait. Its such a pain to get all that apart again especially after half the retaining screws around the light bracket are stripped.
