1g TURBO PROBLEMS; need your help guys..

I have a '91 talon with a JDM motor in it. Recently I had a clutch job done, and since the clutch job the turbo has been doing some funny things (I don't think it had anything to do with the clutch job). When I am going through the RPM the turbo cuts out at 4,000 RPM or around that RPM in all gears besides first. It is the stock turbo pusing 8 psi, and the aftermarket boost gague has always confirmed this. However, the gague now consistantly reads 22psi. It would be nice if the stock turbo could push that, sadly I know they cant.. But I imagine this has something to do with the problem? My temp gague is showing that the car also is over the red however the block is only around 195 F, could this have anything to do with the problems?

Please give me any ideas to what you think is wrong - I love my DSM but she ain't the same without her turbo!! The weather is good and I want her on the road ASAP.

Youre getting fuel cut. You may have a tear in your vacuum line going to the wastegate, causing it to spike like that. Check your lines, and perform a boost leak test.
 
the water temp issue could be that the wire for the sending unit is grounded out. make sure the wire didnt get pinched or broken during that clutch job.
 
The 22 PSI is constant and when I press the gas it goes upto 24. The motor is stock but JDM, there is nothing aftermarket about it besides the clutch and flywheel as of yet. The turbo was behaving funnily also before the car was 'overheating' and pushing more than 8 psi. Also the boost hasnt been increased since factory and it doesnt have a boost controler.

Also the turbo in gears above first would cut out randomly with a juddering motion; the boost would go from on to off, on to off and then sometimes it would continue to push boost afterwards (if I let off the gas the put my foot back on it) and other times it wouldnt. Ill take a look at the boost gague when I am back at the shop on monday and see if it jumps around at all.
 
let me get this straight. your saying at closed throttle your running 22psi but when you hit the gas it goes to 24 psi?...I think you need to read up on turbo 101 or ## boost guage is ####ed up hard core or you should straighten out your story

Well seeing as I watched the boost gague go up from 22 psi to 24 psi several times, and that 'turbo 101' wont teach me how to read a boost gague any better than I already know how to, I guess that leaves the gague.. WTF
 
Thanks yeah I will see what the gague says when I am at WOT in 2 & 3 and let you know what the gague is saying. Apparantly some of the vac lines might have been put back in the wrong places after the clutch job?? Maybe this is causing the odd gague readings..
 
@ 20 Psi I don't see full boost till about 3k.


if you have a boost guage that doesn't read vacuum (like mine) it should read zero at closed throttle.
 
sounds like the boost situation is a bov or the wastegate acctuator. make shure there is clamps on all of your hoses and that one did not come off.
