1g tsi awd. NO spark NO tach/Speedo Help!

I'll start off by saying that I am the "proud" new owner of this famous car! New to the DSM world.

The car currently does not start, no spark. and when the we turn the key the dash lights up but the tach/speedo is dead. No gauge needles move at all. After reading the original post the car had a '90 ecu in it, which subsequently went up in smoke.

We were told that the ecu had been replaced with a working one. car did not start. and the guy said he saw cooked dash wires, needs a dash harness. and gave up from there. after my our inspections we didn't see any evidence of cooked dash wires.

the Cam angle sensor(used) and power transistor(new new) have both been swapped out. still no spark. there is fuel at the rail. have not tried swapping coils yet, I did read on here that "coils rarely fail" chances of both coils failing at the same time are super slim I would think.

so why do I have no spark? I was considering ordering a new, correct, ecu to be 100% sure that's good. ($200+ tho)

is there a way to physically test the ecu to see if mine is actually good? or even the correct one?

would the fact that no gauges work cause the no spark issue? perhaps there are indeed bad wires cause a fault between the ecu - gauges - ignition?

would someone be able to tell me the difference between an EPROM ecu vs. a non-EPROM ecu?

also what exactly are are these plugs not connected? where do they go?
