1G transmission in a 2g?

Is it a direct bolt in to put a 1G transmission in a 2G? Or is "some" modification required?

It won't fit, and don't even bother trying because for the price you could buy a Shep tranny.

Your right about if needs modification to fit, then it isn't worth it. I'm toying with the Idea of making my 97 GST a 97 GSX by buying a junker with a good trans and rear end. But all I can find are 1G AWD trannys. Though I'm not looking to buy at this moment though. Just window browsing.

yes direct fit but they a tendancy to grind after they get some miles on them as the 2g trannies are better made

First off, NO a 1g tranny is not a direct bolt on for a 2g. The brackets are completely different.

^^ Correct. The 1G trans casing is different from the 2G's. The 2G tranny will fit in any DSM, but the 1G will only work in other 1G's.

This seems to be a way too common question lately. To use the 1g tranny you would need to move the front and rear mounting points, and have a 6 bolt block to move the motor mounting brackets and the actual mounts on the frame need to be moved over to match. The 2g tranny has the front and rear mount, where as the 1g tranny only has the tranny mount with the others on the motor itself.

No, and maybe actually. 2G trannies have a weaker 3/4 synchro and tend to shatter when shifted hard. That's the only real difference. Years of abuse, the wearing of the clutch pedal, and lack of proper maintenance on 1G cars have led people to believe that their trans is inferior.
