1g Transmission apart.. can't figure out where a part goes

I took my trans apart and on the back of the 5th/reverse shift assembly?? There is a small piece that is triangular in shape with a round spot that goes through a rail looking thing.... I can't figure out which way this goes and my Haynes manual doesn't have an exploded view of it.

I need to know if it goes towards the case or towards the gear assemblies. It just dropped out while I was working on it and I don't want to put it together and have this backwards. The rest I know how to do...

It is a 1990 TSI AWD

That is the reverse gear paw. It goes on the arm that pivots up and down that wraps around the imput shaft that bolts with 2 12mm bolts to the bell housing. If installs in the reverse gear groove and the stub goes in the hole on the arm and the triangular side goes into the gear groove to engage reaverse on the intermediate shaft and the imput shaft.
