Just getting this thing running again so I'm super paranoid. I have a logger on it. At idle 800rpm etc I have 7 to 10 degrees. Free rev to 3k it shoots to 34. Seems too high. Maybe its running rich? Its all stock.

No real harm running rich. Go do a pull and see what you get.

First of all, these cars run very rich from the factory. As rich as 9.6:1 actually. What do you think running rich has to do with timing? The amount of timing is based off the airflow reading from the maf, not air/fuel ratio.

Look at this timing map. It is for a 1G. As you can see the timing can get as high as 43.

Boy this one has turned into a mess. But anyway just like the 2nd reply said. Do a pull. Because thats timing without a load so it has no real relevance. Do a pull and then come back. You wont get 34* of timing. :thumb:

Stop.

Go drive just about any stock car, including any 1g or 2g. At cruise with a steady throttle you will be around 20" of vacuum, period. If you think I am wrong, go try it a any speed with a steady throttle. This isn't theory , it is fact.

Yeah, I am done trying to prove facts.

I will say it one final time. A steady throttle will produce a vacuum reading of around 20" on a stock car.

Deleted irrelevant posts, suspended relative parties, let's get back to helping the OP please.

I would strongly suggest setting your base timing at 5* as stated by many vfaqs.
