1g rods with 2g pistons

i have a 6 bolt and was wondering it it is possible to mate 1g rods to 2 g pistons ..... and weather or not this is the way to go or should i be going about doing the internals a different way ?
 
Yes you can use 2g pistons on 1g rods, HOWEVER you have to have the 1g rods macheaned to fit.

I have a blue print somewhere that shows all the needed data you can just print it out and take it to any good shop and they can do it from the blue print.

I will search the mass's of pics for it and post it when I find it.
 
It costs about 150 to get the rods mated. I didnt want to pay that so I upgraded to ross
 
Correct me if I'm wrong. Ross makes custom pistons correct? If they make custom pistons why couldn't they make them so there is no machining to the 1st gen rods?

Ross makes pistons for a 1g and a 2g. If you want to mix rods with pistons ... 1g rods and 2g pistons or vice versa then you need them machined. In normal cases you would just buy 2g rods and 2g pistons or 1g rods and 1g pistons and be done with it.
 
well i'm toatlly off topic but i didn't feel like making another thread that involved the same information but i was wonderin if it's a bad idea to use used 2g pistons?? they dont seem that bad but i would rather be safe than sorry.
 
why would you ask if its a "bad idea"?
 
Yea the Ross fit directly on the 1g rods. They fit a little more snug then the stock pistons but thats probly a better thing. The pins are press fit too so you dont need the retains that come with them.
 
I had a 1g rod 2g piston motor. At this point in the game its just not worth it anymore. You can get Weisco pistons which rock BTW for CHEAP. Cheap enough to not make it worth going the 1g rod 2g piston route.

I weighed both options...forged pistons with 1st gen rods and 2nd gen pistons with 1st gen rods. They both come out to about the same price when including the cost of machining the rods. I went with the 2nd gen pistons for reliability and engine longevity. Forged pistons in a daily driver worry me a bit because of their differing rates of expansion/contraction. Also, my goal is not 500hp, so forged pistons were totally unnecessary, and not worth the extra worry. I know that if ALL of the clearances are perfect forged pistons will make for a reliable motor, but in the end they weren't for me. Forged pistons are DEFINITELY overkill for most people with our motors. :thumb:

dsmturboawd- "why would you ask if its a "bad idea"?"

I asked if it was a bad idea because they are used, "would it be safe to use them or not," is more like what i am trying to ask. also when ordering the piston rings would you ask for a .020" overbore or the std ones?
