I converted my fwd galant to turbo 5k miles ago.
2g maf 550cc injectors afc.
8 psi spiked to 10 settled to 8

5k miles my afc settings were -18 low throttle -15 high throttle.

Yesterday i just bought a wideband and put it on the high throttle afr was like 17:1 or 18 and low was always pilled on lean or like 18.

I tuned it for 11:1 high which is like +8 on theafc and the low is around 15 which is -4

car feels so much better...

but my point is i was running that retarded afr for 5k miles boosting every ####ing day, highway, local everything and the motor is still good my compression is 155 across the board(its supposed to be around 190 but #### it its running)

lmk if u have questions.

edit: forgot to say i have a 27x5x3 bar and plate intercooler on my car aswell before and after the wideband...

just because you were running that lean doesnt mean your engine was strong. just running lean wont destroy it. what were your egt's? high egt's and detonation are what kills engines.

ur full of knowledge about turbo system....but where in the post does it say my motor was strong? Im just trying to show people who are doing the conversion not to be that worried about the motor. When I did the conversion i was afriad if i was a little of on the tuning id blow it up . Well i was way off and its still running hard...

Attention much? Not calling you an attentionwhore but it seems like by the way you are talking it would imply you are seeking lots of attention.

BTW, your engine is not that strong, you just got a little beginners luck.

i guess i took you saying the pistons are'nt weak as you saying they are stong... wouldnt stong be the opposite of weak? i agree with you tho, people are too weary of turboing a nt with stock nt internals.

this is not my first dsm. I have had 3 turbo dsms before i still have a motor left for when this blows so...but im impressed by this shit. 18 or so afr is ####ing crazy.and ive beat a bunch of cars including a vr6

did you create this post just to start crap or something... obviously your implying your motor is strong when you title the thread "1g pistons weak? LOAD OF CRAP." somebody trys to reply to your thread saying that running lean will not #$@$ up ur motor and you shove it in his face... why did you bother even posting this thread if you didnt want any replies?

It's not that the n/t pistons are weak, they just have a low tolerance to detonation. Mavisky wrote up a tech article on this and I think he expained it pretty well.

...On the other hand though it limits you severely in the type of power you can make. The piston ring lands on the nt pistons (now we're mainly talking the nt 4g63 here) are in a terrible position. While more than sufficient in strength for a nt motor only pushing out 135hp out of its 2 liters, once boost is added problems suddenly arise. The ring lands are so high up on the piston skirts that a shockwave from pre-ignition (knock) can easily crack the land causing the ring to separate, lose compression, and god forbid internal engine damage.

I don't know what you're doing to suppress detonation while running 11:1 on that engine, but as long as you don't knock, you should be okay.

In regards to the 1gNT pistons, as long as you have proper fuel/spark control they are more than adequate for boost.

thank you captain
