ok ive been looking a lot of places for some good pistons for my 420a. But i cant find any!! can someone help me out and tell me where i can find some for a fair price? also, Im gettin an HRC stage 2 kit in a couple months but i cant decide what ratio to get. I was thinkin 8.5-1 but wouldnt i loose a significant amount of HP lowering that ratio? Would i be safe doing a forged 10-1 or even 9-1 ?? and yes, this time i did my research but i still have unanswered questions. please help...... !!! :dsm:

This is going to sound like a newb question but when it says, some machine work needed to install.... what EXACTLY does that mean? like bore or something????

You will only need to bore the block if you buy oversized pistons. You can get the wisecos or any other brand in the stock size though. I bought the stock size because my block was in excellent condition and in my research I've found that for the money boring the 420a block for power alone is not really worth it. Especially if you going turbo. What they mean by some machine work is that you will need to take the pistons and rods to an engine shop to have the wrist pins pressed in. You do this because most people would bust their brand new piston by beating the pin in.

Got ya... what kind of boost can i run with a stock engine just with the lower ratio pistons? it is only a temp driver,,, i only drive it on some weekends so i wont be driving it every day or anything.... im just seein what kind of HP and all that I will be lookin at...

I just picked up a 1990 talon N/T but i want to make it turbo, what pistons should i get? Should i get first gen turbo pistons or go second gen turbo pistons. I just want to put a like 14 b turbo on it or maybe go 16g but i am not sure yet. If anyone knows help me out.

i am rebuilding my 1995 eclipse gs. it has the 420A 2.0L engine. i am going to be putting the star stage 2 turbo kit on it and i was wondering what pistons and rods i should get. would i need high compression pistons or what? also any other information about what i should get or do with this rebuild woud be greatly apreshiated. i am pretty much a newb when it comes to this. :thumb:

From what I've read so far it sounds like JE 8.8:1 pistons are bullet proof for up to almost 500 hp and Crower forged rods would be the strongest but you can also go with Eagle forged rods if your not planning on going more then about 275 hp. But thats just what I've found so far and I've been talking to HAHN Racecraft thats what they told me. I'm going with the JE 8.8:1 pistons and Crower Rods for a Stage V turbo system from HAHN should be able to buy it in a couple of months and you can get the pistons and rods directly from them.

That's interesting. From what I've read on 2GNT, Eagle rods are good to 350hp. Keep in mind that if you have a 350hp engine, it's not making 350hp all the time. Drive it responsibly and you may only peak it out once or twice a week. That's not to say that it takes more than one WOT blast to redline to break a piston, but you get the idea. It's not just about how much hp you put down on the dyno, but how well you tune the engine as well.
