instead of cutting up your cars, why dont you go after market. like drift or blitz body kits, they come with the larger openings and they will look a lot better. just my 2cents.

because 1g body kits look horrible
 
This might sound silly/crazy, but have any of you see the "wing riser" kits that Mach V has for WRXs? Back when I first got into DSMs I thought the best looking front clip for my 1G would be if I could just increase the opening by having some 2-4" spacers grafted/bolted/whatever where the seam already exists. You'd have to be careful around speedbumps and dips, but It'd be like a stock big mouth look and have plenty of airflow. Anyone know how you could actually do it.
 
i saw something like that done to a turbo civic but the bumper was totally molded over the IC so all u could see was the fins
