1g or 2g for street/strip?

I have a 97 tsi thats geting beat up so im thinking about starting a new project with it. Im thinking of puting the motor in my 71 chevelle, my last sbc in it has died and i keep hearing that the stock crank and blocks can hold 1000+ hp. So my main question is should i use my 2g or sell it and get a running 1g donor? Ive heard the block on the 2g is better and the head is better as long as your making peak power below 8000rpm but the rods are better on the 1g. What kind of power will they hold up to stock(1g vs 2g)? The car will be street/strip that i would run race gas with at the track and i would like to one day try (with or without n2o) to hit the 1000hp limit of the crank.
 
The 6 bolt (1g) has a better crank, rods, and better flowing head. The 2g head has a better design, and is better when equally ported as a 1g.

The 6 bolt will hold more power in stock form due to the rods, and a block that won't crankwalk. I would trust 450whp on a stock bottom end, but many have went higher.
 
ugh more crankwalk talk. You can walk a 6 bolt block, quite easily I might add, if you don't build it right. Just like a 7 bolt.

To answer the OP, no, the stock crank cannot handle 1000hp. Atleast, not for more than a split second. The rods would also let go FAR before that. The block, yes, it can probably handle close to that number but it has to be put together perfectly. Definitely don't expect it to last long. Before you try 1000hp on a 4 cylinder, do 300 reliably first.
 
Just sell the car and buy a built 6 bolt longblock and stand alone ecu. Hacking up a whole car just for a block and crank is not worth it.
 
I know a stock bottom end wont hold up to 1000hp but i was hopeing to hear 500+ or so. Im debating another sbc but the money it costs to get a bottom end to hold up to 1000hp will clear $4000 i had $2000 in the last bottom end and cracked the block at the main and spun the bearing and that ws only around 650hp. My buddy kevin went 9s in his front wheel drive laser with the stock crank and block plus i wouldnt stress out about a dsm cruising at 4000rpm the way i did with my push rod motor. The thought was get a motor in and running at least low 11s (its 10s legal) this year then next year a better bottom end and spray if all went well. The car is only #3160 with a 4.1 gear and the stall was around 4200 flash so i thought i could spool up a decent size turbo.
 
I would go with a 5.3 and turbo it. The 5.3 is a great motor that will take a punishment. I 270,000 on the one in my old truck before trading it off. They can be easy found in most junk yards.
