just installed my 2 1/2 inch strait threw cannister style exhuast and a hollow catalytic converter. i am amazed how quiet the car is. stock piping. all welds and piping looks sealed well. the car sounds great. i wanted it louder tho, and i didnt really notice much of a performance gain...

Is it turbo back? What type of exhaust is it? Most of the sound change will be related to the muffler. Have you ever had a turbo car with exhaust? The turbo somewhat deadens the exhaust sound. If you want some annoyingly loud noise look no further than a 02 dump.

my exhuast looks like this one Universal 4" Tip 3" Inlet Racing Exhaust Muffler | eBay the catalytic converter is my old one and i smashed out all the honeycomb stuff with a broom handle LOL. i thought the car was gonna be pretty loud. there are no resonators or any wierd things in the exhaust either. only thing i can think of making it quiet is the turbo...

If you want nice power gains and healthy sound you need to put a bit of cash down and buy a decent turbo back or at least cat back exhaust system, not just a coffee can with a smashed out cat that is probably just causing more turbulence than anything.

A lot of guys run the Megan stuff then just add a down pipe and 02 housing later.

do these engines gain performance from having a strait threw pipe instead of a catalytic converter? some guy was telling me id loose power. but i heard from a mechanic that most turbo cars gain from having no cat...never mind i looked it up. not really a noticable gain, as i can tell by driving the car. ty for your input

The stock piping is probably what's keeping it quiet. I'm also thinking that there is still a resonator in there somewhere if all you did was chop off the muffler at the end.
