So it seems as though the appearance section is non-existant so i don't know where else to post this.

On wednesday my car could possibly be going in for hood repair after it got keyed very badly.

The cost of repairs is about enough for me to just say forget it and pick up a CF hood.

I have a couple questions about CF hood's before i make the leap to shave weight off my AWD.

1, I know hood pins are necessary as the hood is so light. But how do CF hoods react in a crash type situation? Would the hood crumple, fly off, or sheer off the hindge bolts and slice my head off?

2, Im looking at sebion(sp?) or frankscustomfiberglass. I've read good things about both, but am leaning toward franks because of price. People also seem to be extremely happy with franks work. What are people's experience with both companies?

Also, as a side note. As i was searching around for hood options and experiences on 1g's i came across a few threads about fiberglass and CF lips that were possibly in the works for 1gb's. i'm curious as to if they are actually around somewhere, and if they actually help force more air into the radiator and or help with aerodynamics.

Sorry if this isn't where this belongs, but i wasn't getting bites anywhere else.

Also, before i forget. Are these hoods safe for DD-ing and parking outside?

It's going to be the car that gets me back and forth to school (HW driving most of the way).

theyre fine for dd. im not sure about a accident but when ive seen them pop up they usually tear off at the hinges so id imagine it would tear in a accident and not shatter or anything.

I got a cf hood and it was $500.00+ from VIS, I love it. Anyways, I have seen one in a front end crash, it broke at the hinges and at the hoodpins and went up the windshield and over the car. It didnt brake the windshield but the hood was toast. :toobad:

Oem style is what i'm going for definitely. And i think it's going to look good on my red 1gb.

So what about frankscustomfiberglass? I want to hear about people who have his hoods. Thats where i'm leaning towards considering Sebion is SUPER expensive.

So i'm begining to get more concerned about getting a CF hood here.

I don't just want to get a hood that someone can pop open with a couple simple hood pins, but i also know that the latches on these hoods hold for SH!T.

I want something secure thats not easy to get into if you wanna steal shit. So i'm looking at getting the frankscustom hood with a latch, then also putting in standard moroso hood pins, or something similar.

What the strongest hood pin set-up?

So i just said Eff it, and i'm getting a CF hood. Insurance is sending me a check for the "damages" to my old hood which i will use to get the CF one. So now i have options and need some SERIOUS opinions.

Sebion or frankscustom? Ones cheaper, one has the UBER rep. Actually they both have good rep. But what would you all do if you had the cash for a real nice CF hood?

If I was you I would get a VIC CF hood w/sparco hood pins. If you have a alarm on your ride just have a pin installed under the hood so if anybody tries to open the alarm will go off. The VIS CFH hood has the latch that hooks to the car and they use grade A carbon fiber when making there hoods.

Thanks for the old random post. Like i said i didn't want VIS, crap clear coats, ect.

I went with Seibon 520 shipped and much better quality than VIS. I'm also debating btwn Deft hoodpins or the sparcos. Very different pins, but both very good. But thats a different thread.

Not necessarly true i actually had a hood i bought from Seibon for my Prelude and it had crappy clear coat. I got a refund and purchased a VIS hood and im much happyier with the VIS hood. But that could have been one time thing i dont know.

My VIS hood is looking great so far, but it spends a majority of its "outside time" under a cheap car cover.

That looks pretty good. But i needed something that could take some outside abuse, since the car won't be covered or garaged and is my DD. if i need a car cover when i don't drive it i guess it's not THAT big a deal, just a hastle.

I was looking into getting a CF hood for my 90TSI, but Seibon doesn't make it for the 1g of my year (1ga if i'm not mistaken). If I did have a choice, I would go with the Seibon.

Good luck!

Ok, here's the skinny everyone. I got my Seibon CF hood via freight yesterday. YAY!

It comes off the truck i sign for it and immideatly tear open the box. The hood looks beautiful. Perfect CF weave and beautiful fiberglass skeleton work underneath.

I tear off my old hood and have a couple buddies help me line up the new hood. It slides on with ease.

We go to close the hood and it won't close. . . Hmmmm. . .

Try again. . . Right side goes down, left side pops up. Hmmmm. . .

Look at the latch. It's crooked. WTFFFFFFFFFF?????

So now we're trying to figure out how to get the latch to work. Can't bend it because it's inlayed in fiberglass. Can't grind the latch hook on the car because it will still be crooked. We could hack the latch off and just use hood pins. Hmmmm. . . Not a bad idea, but totally defeating the purpose of getting a hood with a locking stock hood system.

So i call Seibon around 4pm their time. I get someone right away. I tell them my issues with the car and that i need a hood on it because it's my DD. They say fine, send pictures and they'll get back to me monday. WTFFFF (again)???? Monday??? Did i not say i NEEDED THE CAR AS A DD??

So now im pissed.

I run outside and snap pics of the latch system and the bodylines to let them know it's on right. And i send them out right away hoping to get a quick response. I wait and wait and get nothing back. Great, now i have to pull off this CF hood and put on the stock hood. It was dark out already so i said screw it for the night.

This morning i wake up and look at the car and notice that the drivers side sits WAY WAY off the car on the latch. WTFFFFFF (AGAIN)

So i snap more pics and send them out.

All in all i am SERIOUSLY hoping i got a bad hood. Because a company like Seibon has a pretty darn good reputation and as of right now i am SEVERLY MASSIVLY upset and disappionted. If it won't even sit right on the latch then how will it even begin to close correctly.

I'm way way pissed. As soon as i hear back from them i'll let you all know what they say. Because i'm sorry, this is inexcusable. I'm almost wishing i went with a different company now. Bad BAD fitment + poor customer service = VERY unhappy customer.

Nope, they hosed me on it. But i ended up finding a really good body shop that put the hood on for cheap.

All it needed was a couple shims and it was good. I got hood pins in it and it looks fantastic.

I still would NEVER EVER do business with sportcompactonly or seibon EVER again. They treated me like i was a child and didn't work with me at all.

But all in all now that it's on i'm very happy with the look. But i could have been just as happy with a franks hood. My mistake for trying to get "the best". I should have gone for the small company with the good rep.

Oh well, just another expensive life lesson.

Oh, is that a blow at me? Because if you look around tuners, there are LOTS of dsm's with CF hoods.

And if you read anything you'd know i got one already, and had it put on. And all the ensuing adventure i went through with it.
