1g GST 5spd internals in 2g gst tranny case

I TRIED SEARCHING FOR MY ANSWER TROUGH-OUT THE FORUM BUT HAD NO LUCK!

The 5spd tranny on my 97 gst went to shit. I have a mint 1G 5spd tranny F5m3 and decided to open it to compare both trannies.

I know i can't use the 1g case, but can I transfer the internals from the 1g to the 2g case?

I have both transmissions open side by side and the internals look exactly the same.


both are FWD GST 5spd transmissions

97 gst transmission code F5M3l

1G tranny code F5M3

any help will be greatly appreciated

the transmission case setup inside is identical and the internals mounted on my tranny perfectly. all the gears and synchros were identical and had the same teeth count. (I cant figure out why some people say that 2g trannys perfom better when the 1g and 2g internals were idenctical (in my case.)

I kept my steel shift forks and rails.

the only major problem I had, was that I used my 2g differential because the CV input shafts on my 2g are thicker than the 1g. 2g Differential had the same gear count as the 1g and works perfectly. (matches my speed sensor better)

So if you need a 2g FWD GST tranny and you come accross a cheap 1g FWD GST tranny, get it because most likely the internals will be the same.
