1g FWD cat-back question

will a fwd cat-back exhaust ever go under the rear axle? i was buying one from a guy today and it was designed to go under the axle and then under the gas tank. it didn't make any sense to me. does anyone have an exhaust system like this?

ALSO can someone please take pictures of their fwd exhaust so i can get an idea of what it should look like

Honestly you dont need to bi*** the guy out for trying to help. He honestly thought he was being helpful.

As far as whether or not it is possible for the exhaust to go the route you are describing anything is possible. I along with many others have had FWD 2gs that have exhaust run the route you described.
Are you talking about a 1g or a 2g?
Can you get some pictures of the exhaust you are trying to buy?

I've looked at this on my car many times deciding how I was going to have my exhaust ran, and I don't think it's possible to go under the gas tank on a 1g fwd. It might be possible to go under the axle on the passenger side of the gas tank, but I don't think you could go under the gas tank itself.

it's for my 1g. the exhaust i bought (but had to take back) routed itself under the axle AND under the fuel tank and it just looked weird. the guy said he could have sworn he pulled it from a FWD so then he brought over a 2nd one that he was almost certain came from a FWD and it was basically the same thing as the first one he gave me.

How did you manage to fit it over the gas tank? There is NO room to run it over it. All the exhaust I have seen for FWD's are under the tank and under the dead axle. Someone would be insane to go through the trouble to do that.

well i was saying under the tank. as in if i go over a speed bump the exhaust would scrape on the ground

Jesus, the stupidity is rampant in this thread.

On a 1g fwd the exhaust goes straight down the center, makes a 90 degree turn towards the passenger side of the car, another 90 towards the rear again and goes up and over the rear axles through a spot in the unibody and then back down and out the rear of the car.

The exhaust that guy tried to sell you was for an awd or a 2g fwd.

2g fwd's have an independent rear suspension and a saddlebag gas tank unlike the 1g fwd's which have a solid rear axle and standard rectangular fuel tank. Because of this the 2gfwd and awd exhausts are the same, the 1g's they are extremely different.

Trying to route a 1g fwd exhaust like a 1g awd exhaust would lead to the exhaust sitting mere millimeters from the ground under the fuel tank and would limit suspension travel for the solid rear axle.

thank you so much. this is exactly what i was talking about. and looking at the bends on that awd exhaust in that picture, it's the same as the one that guy gave me. i knew there was no way it would go beneath the fuel tank
