I am still looking for a DSM. Originally I was looking into a 2g due to most people saying that its handling was superior to the 1g.

I have been looking for information on track usage data comparing the two, but every "track" article I can find comparing the two is nothing but drag strips.

Around here, a "track" is a road track like Laguna Seca, Seattle International, Portland International, ETC. and a "strip" is a 1/4 mile.

Can someone either tell me if the 1g is capable to be as nimble as the 2g with modification, or will the 2g still be more controllable with the same modifications?

The 2g has a better suspention design then the 1g. I will be running a vr4 galant that uses 1g suspention. But I'm all for the under dog that's why I'm doing it. There are a couple guys in Cali that run 2g quite sucsessfully in scca if I remember correctly.

Really I would say if you put the same time and money into each. You may get better results out of a 2g

If you are comparing FWD's the 2g is alot better than the 1g. This is because the 2g fwd has an independant rear suspension and the 1g has a twist beam axle. But as for the AWD's they are very similar and since the 1g is a few hundred pounds lighter I would imagine it would handle better given equal mods as a 2g.

The 2g AWD is better stock to stock, and simply bolting in a suspension will net better results for a 2g (I saw this first hand with JIC coilovers in a 1g vs a 2g), but the 1g is lighter and with a macphearson strut design it is easier to make aggressive adjustments to camber up front. You *HAVE* to be sure and eliminate the active rear toe on a 1g for it to handle worth a damn.

A recent game changer in this discussion is the availability of putting Evo 8/9 Ohlins coilovers on a 1g with hardware that adapts the coilovers to fit properly. John Mueller is offering this setup with whatever bits and pieces you need to suit your application. Check this thread out for more info:

If it was going to be a garaged track car, then that would be the way to go!

So what car would have a better suspension as an AWD with a mid-line suspension, something like the K-sport, put into them.

Would a 2g GST bennefit more so to due the axle design?

Yes! if you are comparing FWD's then the 2g wins hands down. But like I said the AWD really come down to what you like better.

Exactly, and with Ohlins coilovers on a 1g you are talking about ####ing fantastic handling.

Personally, I think the 1g handles very well considering the era it came from and for what they were going for. I don't think they really had any intentions of making a car that turned decently until the second generation.

One thing you might consider is bracing the front of the car under the fenders to around the area where the door bolts to the car. I have no freakin clue what they are called but it's most likely something you'd have to have fabricated for you anyway. Truthfully it does not "look" hard to do, but looks can be deceiving.

It's called a fender brace, and I know greengoblin makes them for the 2g, he could possibly be persuaded to help with the fabrication for a 1g.

1g's can run the track, and win!!!
