Too funny.

My stock Mitsu '90 radio has a 3.5" mini stereo CD input jack labeled "CD Input" that is mounted in the front panel so I can do the same thing....

If someone knows how to do some soldering and where to tap into on the pre-amp side of the audio power amp circuit of any stock radio, one can do the same thing... not too difficult to do.

Hmmm... Alllright.. Well I think my point of posting this was this is a nice radio. Its got a 9 band EQ.. Which is more than most aftermarket radios have. This radio didn't ORIGINALLY come with an Aux jack.. And just because you kinda know how this was done, doesn't mean everyone does. In fact MOST people do not. So this post was obviously not for you. It was for other people who do not know how this is done, and like this radio and would like it instead of an aftermarket because it'll keep their interior more stock. So.. I think what I'm basically trying to say is why would you even bother looking at it, let alone posting a kinda dick comment? I'm not trying to be a dick here myself. That shit just kinda aggrivates me.

He wasn't being a dick, he was stating that some OEM radios come with a AUX jack already. If I'm not mistaken, the OEM ones with the jack has an EQ. I can't remember how many bands that EQ has.

My friends '90 Laser RS Turbo also has this jack. It also has an equalizer although it isn't 9-band. Either way, no stock head unit is even comparable to an aftermarket one. Having that equalizer doesn't make up for the other specs that pale in comparison. Aftermarket head units put out much more power then stock ones and have a much higher preamp voltage (2-4 volts compared to maybe .5 volts stock). I'm not saying there is no point to that radio, but just that it isn't really a better alternative unless it's to replace a broken head unit in a completely stock system that will remain that way.

Nakamichi makes some nice, feature-rich head units that look as close to OEM as you will find.

Here's a pic of my console with the mentioned stock Mitsu radio that has the CD input jack to the lower right of the faceplate. You plug the cord into the jack and press the button above it to activate that jack for external input sources.

Can't remember what my brother's has in it (can look tomorrow) but I'm pretty sure he has the 9-band EQ one and his wife's NT has the one DSM1G90 does. They're both 90s. Of course I'm the one with the cassette/CD combo and it doesn't work right, if at all.

Guys.. I know. I have the same radio DSM1G90 does. Tell me this. If you go to Best Buy.. Ultimate Electronics.. Wal-mart even. How much are you gonna pay for an aftermarket radio, dash kit, wiring harness, installation (if you dont know how). If you have the shitty radio/cassette radio and want an AUX jack and an EQ, but don't feel like spending all that money on an aftermarket radio, don't you think you might wanna purchase that radio from ebay with the aux jack? And still have the stock look, and very easy install..? I wasn't trying to start some huge post about how other factory radios have aux jacks. Seriously. Think about this.. I was saying "Hey guys, theres a radio for sale" and you guys said "Big deal, I have a radio, i could go to the store and buy a radio"... Alright... Thats amazing... But.. This is also a nice radio for sale..

I think the intention of your post was slightly misinterpreted thats all. Either way that is a decent alternative to a flashy or expensive head unit. Good find

Yes, it was misinterpreted forI got smart and shot my mouth off on such an unique install on a radio that is quite rare to see one do since I've done some of that due to my electronic electronic knowledge - why I apologized for do coming across as a dick and not suppporting the OP on the original post in his find.

Once again. I didn't mean to rile (and do apologize) for that's not the purpose as a member of this forum, for I should have been more careful in my comments since our main objective here is to help one another and give support, not to ridicule and to rile.

thx for listening - DSM

This isn't in the classifieds so quit giving members shit.

I had no clue that DSMs had these stock, so a big thanks for bringing that to my attention it is much appreciated.

Plus I think you would realize we are DSMers most would either upgrade to a nicer stereo or since a lot of us (well used to be a lot of us) are DIYers so now we will do that mod ourselves.

I'm hunting Jyards, thanks DSM1g90

Yeah I figured most of you guys were DIYers. But I actually saw a few posts on a different DSM forum about people wanting AUX jacks on radios. That forum wouldn't let me post after I registered though, so I figured I'd post on this one. :thumb: LOL. Yeah I know this isnt the classifieds.. But it looked like not many people really looked at the classified section. I'm sorry if I came off as a dick too. I wasn't trying to.

I don't mean to sound rude, but I really just don't get the point of wanting to look like a stock radio. They are very low wattage and not very well built. They are 20 years old and on the verge of dying. If it was me, I would be getting a newer stock radio from another car and doing that. They have focused A LOT on making stereos sound better in the past years. I really don't think one of these radios would sound much if any better with an aux jack than using a cassette adaptor. I know people may not want to spend a lot of money, but you can get a low-end radio from a store or for sale for dirt cheap, and it will still sound better than these old stock ones. And if you need a harness, you can desolder the connector on your stock radio to use. That is what I did. And one more thing...why do we need a dash kit for our cars? We have radio brackets...use them! They make the radio harder to steal than getting one of those dash kits and using the flimsy crappy sleeve! To fill in the lower DIN plate is cheap, too. They don't cost too much to get a tray for that from the dealer, or even better, a junk yard! You can also sometimes find good speakers and radios in a jun yard!

Actually the AUX jack sounds WAYYYYYY better than using a cassette adapter. No comparison. And this radio actually sounds really good for being stock. Better than a lot of cheap aftermarkets Ive heard. And I've heard a LOT of them.. There is actually a HUUUUUGE market for stock radios with AUX jacks. Trust me. I mean MASSIVE. People pay more for stock radios with jacks than they do for aftermarkets. I've seen people pay over $200 for a regular stock radio with a jack. All the time! It's insane.

Well it looks like I might start yanking radios from jun yards and adding AUX jacks to them for profit ;)

...true, it can be a gold mine out there with stuff that can be had for pennies.

Like those radio doors (the trim around the radio itself): Mitsu wants $36 plus dollars for a new double DIN door (the one without the pocket) and I go snag bunches of them for a buck apiece. But single DIN doors that has the pocket are the ones to be had when installing aftermarket standard chassis radios in since that upper part works great with the sleeve that the radio chassis slides into .. where it can definitely look stock and the pocket is a place to put the sunglasses in.

(I used to install radios at a shop many moons ago for a part-time job and a hobby...why I get carried away with this stuff at times..)

I would rather leave the stock radio in my car and add/have the aux input. I used to be into stereos a lot, but after having 2 vehicles broken into and head units stolen, I got tired of messing with them. The head unit wasn't a very expensive one, but the damage done getting them out was a pain in the butt to fix. If I would have let the insurnace company send it to a shop I would have probably been out of pocket a lot of cash.

I would love it if my 96 stock head unit had one of these.

Well you could buy that one off Ebay and hardwire it. I dunno if the wiring harness is the same or not. And yeah, you could make a lot of money goin to junk yards and putting Aux jacks in. It's kind of a pain though. Some radios are easy, most are not.

Does that radio have a fuse in the back of it? Because mine has a slot missing it seems like and the lights wont light up.
