WHat do you guys think about the pioneer DEH-1600 head unit...I have one here with out a face, but I can get a faceplate cheap from ebay. Let me know thanks.

If it has the features you are looking for go for it.

The things I look for are 4 channel preouts (front/rear) and seperate subwoofer preouts, aux input. And at least 4volts. These are important things for people hooking it up to an amp. If not, I just look that it has the basic mp3 features, detachable face, eq, etc.

Pioneer generally makes good decks. But who doesn't these days, for basic use with no amp, it comes down to brand loyality, features, and look of the deck.

You should get the roadmaster vr-3 deck. It has SD card slot input AND USB input, I believe it even has an AUX input in the front of the deck. And it has 4 channel preouts and sub preout. Of course the name sucks, so most people will say it does too. But it has a lot of features.

in my '97 talon i have that infinity setup, the top one you could get with the car, and i pulled the sub and amp i had out of my truck that i just sold, and i was wondering if there were outputs on the back of that stock deck that i could hook my sub up to. or am i going to have to get a new deck. and i've also been hearing that its a pain in the ass to find thin enough speakers to fit in the rear, that could be crap, i dont know, i've only had the car for 2 weeks. any input on this would be great. thanks

No, as is common with stock component systems, they're not much made to be "improved". You can get adapters, fiddle around with it, and wind up asking yourself why you didn't just start over in the first place.

mike, if you are set on keeping hte stock deck, you can ghetto rig it and tap the rear speakers.

I too would recommend just replacing it. It's very easy to change the audio in the 2G. Especially add an amplifier to power the speakers.

It is very easy to change the speakers in the 2 G's...

I recent replaced the 6x9's in the back with the Alpine ones. Hadta do a little bit of dremeling because there is a plastic bracket that holds the stock speaker into place and it was getting in the way so I had to cut it off, and replace it with a little bit of foam tape just in case.

Sounds a lot better, and it was super easy. Maybe 20 minutes per speaker, once you figure out how to get that side panel off. Off the top of my head it's just a couple screws and you pop it off because they're friction screw mounted. Don't take off the top part of the seatbelt, cause I did that and I can't get the cover back on :'(

I have a wireless xm radio sitting right under the deck and mines crystal clean i havnt had trouble with it as long as im not trying to over power a staion like when i travel to new cities

how you doing i am the supervisor at Best Buy of the car audio, wireless, and camera dept. For the stock radio there are no inputs for a aux adapter. The plug is only for the factory cd changer ad on. There are companies like Blitz safe, and peripheral that made adapters for stock radios but not for the mitsu. Your best bet is to just pick up a cheap Dual or Insignia radio that already has an auxilliary built into them and a 6 dollar aux cable, of course you will need to pocket and the harness so all together you could get the deck and parts installed for around 150 bux. Those transmitters are alright but they have problems keeping signal for a period of time. I would recommend the deck way, any other questions about this feel free to ask . for the person asking about hooking up a system to the stock deck...you can do this buy have a converter installed in your car that costs around 30 bux this adds subwoofer outputs to your existing deck without having to get another one, then you can hookup a set of rca's to that and run them to another amp. The stock amp is in there for the speakers only and would not be able to power any subwoofer. The doors are the hardest place to put aftermarket speakers in them because in the eclipses the regulator gets in the way of most speakers, I have found that most pioneer, kenwood, and the Alpine type S speakers fit into them, without doing some major modding to fit better speakers in most cars can except a spacer for speakers with large magnets like the Alpine Type R's and infinity's but since the panel is the way it is in these cars there is no way.
