My question is simple.

I have a stock MAF and injen style 3" intake. I also own a Dejon Tool MAFT TB mount I/C pipe and a MAFT for a 1G.

Should I keep it the stock way until I get a scan tool with a wideband o2 meter for tuning?

Or

Put the MAFT setup on and run it w/o tuning until I can buy a wideband o2 meter tool?

My car may have vac leaks, so I could benifit from metering the air right before the TB. Plus the 1G MAF is weak, and very restrictive (might make my car run super lean because of the 800% more flow).

Is there anyone that has used it w/o tuning the trims? Maybe someone has been through this already?

Imput? :barf:

I would install it and just set it for the stock injectors and you should be fine as long as you keep boost in the 10-14psi range. Then I would get a wbo2, logger and some type of engine management so then you have all you need when you start to do the real mods.

yes, I totally understand the tuning process. I'm just not sure how well the car runs with just the stock tune (aka: injectors, 3/3.5" maf). Like you are saying, just w/o tuning the WOT, Mid and Idle. The cruise is the defalt fuel map, which for daily driving thats would it would be using mainly. But that's all in theory.

I was hoping someone has a MAFT that has driven it w/o tuning idle, mid, wot for a few months+.

I have the 3.5" maf, and it's just because it was free. I also have the dejon tool 3" i/c pipe. So I'm not sure if I can fit the 3.5" in with reducers, but I'm going to try. I'm wishing I had bought a stock I/C piping now since the maft one is set to 3" by defalt.

I'm planning on setting it up this weekend, and I'll just see how it runs. My Laser is mostly stock, so I'm thinking I will be ok.

Update***

I finally had some time off to get the MAFT installed, and working. It idles great, low RPM is great.. But I'm having one issue.

As soon as I get past 1psi, I have problems. If I start from a stop, and as I'm giving it middle throttle (about/less) once I get to about 3K rpm and I see about 3-6psi it will lose all power and the car will slow/slightly buck. The car will not hold boost (big boost leak?)

I left the MAFT setup on with the TB mount, and as long as I drive around slowly making sure I stay out of the boost, then everything is fine.

I just put the MAFT on last night and I drove to work today. I'm going to drive to my friends shop and look around and see if we can solve the problem. If anyone thinks they can pin point the problem from what I described, that would be awesome.

I'm thinking there is a huge leak at the upper i/c pipe where it connects to the intercooler. Someone at the shop mentioned it could be fuel cut? But that didn't sound right (not that I know much about fuel cut). But also the idle, mid, and WOT are all at zero so it has not been checked for lean/rich.

I will be checking everything out at the shop in about 4/5 hours from now and I'll check back and see if anyone here has some ideas of what to do here.

Thanks.
