Ok guys, so Im using a 1g CAS in a 2g 95 gst and its not the black top, but Im getting the random misfire code and I have to shut my car off and restart it, then in a while it comes back. I hear theres a way to get around that, can anyone explain how or show a pic of theirs?? Thanks guys

Gauging by your other thread you just started, you're looking into DSMlink but don't have it, correct? Also, does your 2g have a 6 bolt swap?

If this is true, and you plan on getting it soon, I would just deal with the problem and wait it out. You can use DSMlink to tell the car not to look for this code.

Snowborder714, beet me to it. I currently run a 1g CAS in my 2g and have always gotten the same misfire cel even when the car ran great. Good, if you want to have the ability to adjust timing. I am too looking into the link for it's tuning capabilty.

Until you get dsmlink, just disconnect your throttle position sensor and the misfire should go away. I ran my '95 like that for awhile before I was able to get link, with no problems.

really? I cant see a car running without a TPS sensor... But this car im talking about is not getting dsm link, my 98 gsx is the one thats getting link.

6 Bolt Motor Install Into a 2G Eclipse

This is down towards the bottom.

"How do I get rid of the Random Misfire studded and check engine light?
================================================================================

RM (Random Misfire)The ECU is flagging a misfire condition because the crank
sensor which originally drove the hyper accurate signal for the 2G ECU has now
been replaced and simulated by the not so accurate 1G CAS. The only remedies
for this symptom once you have it is:

1. Start over again and do it the original RRE way by modding the oil pump case
and keep the crank signal. RRE does not do it this way anymore, so why would
you?

2. Wire in a potentiometer on the barometric sensor wire going to the
ECU,thereby fooling the ECU into thinking you are at very high elevation (low
barometric pressure) so it doesn't check for RM. This sounds simple, but if you
don't tune the engine to compensate for the additional timing, you will end up
turning your piston's to goo which also kills your turbo. (Not a recommended
fix)

3. Cutting the TPS sensor wire. This actually appears to work for some
people, but since TPS is useful for data logging and tuning, its not a good long
term fix. This may also effect engine performance during times when the ECU uses
rapid changes in throttle position. "

But like I said, I didn't cut it... I just disconected it. That was one of the common "bandaids" back in the day. Mine ran fine with no associated problems (that I could tell) for well over a year.

what I am trying to get at is, if and when I do put a 6 bolt block in my 2g and keep the 2g head I can't use the 2g cam sensor because the 6 bolt block do not provide the crank sensor signal like the 2g does.

I got a 6bolt swap done with a greentop jdm gvr4 cas and I don't throw any random misfire codes. But since you have a 2g head you should probly get a blacktop cas. I think that'll solve your problem.

swap in a 2997-1999 ecu. It won't throw a code and you don't have to swap around spark plug wires. It fires correct and reads the cas correct, not inverted. No misfire code. Also the 1997-1999 ecus spit out data faster with a decent logger like evoscan. And evoscan spits out a knock sum, so you don't have to lookfor a timing dip to know yo'reknocking. . . just a thought. Since all 2g ecus are bolt in. And you have a 1g cas, any 1997+ ecu would save you alot of trouble.

Yep. I have a 6 bolt in my '99. I have never had the random misfire CEL and run the plug wires in the stock order.
