Using a 1g CAS on 1G headswap. Can I use a 2g coil? Map sensor question...

On my 95 I'm putting a

90 Head, 90 intake manifold, 1G CAS, and still using the 2g throttle body for now with all vaccum lines connected.

My question is can I still use my 2g coil if I mount it on the 1g bracket? It seemed to fit nice and tight in there but I wasn't sure if there was any electrical differences I should be aware of.

I'm using a 1g CAS as well, so if its ok to use my 2G coil, I'm planning on just rewiring the 3-plug harness to keep the sparkplug wire order the same. (Never know if a family member or some random mechanic might change something)

Another question I had concerns the EGR MAP Sensor:

Can this sensor be left hanging or does it actually need to be mounted in a certain way? It looks as if there's a hole on the bottom of the sensor where vaccum would be applied. If it does need some sort of vaccum, can I just 'T' it off another line?

Thanks again,

you can't use the 2g coils with the 1g bracket ... the bracket won't fit on the manifold anymore because the coils are flipped. I just used 1g coils ... some people just relocate their 2g coils. If you flip the coils and make them fit the wires won't reach. ( at least this is what happened to me )

That is the ignitor they left hanging .. not the map sensor.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'flipped', but the 2g coils fit fine on the 1g bracket, just a little tight, and the plug for the coils reaches towards the middle of the intake manifold where it was originally. The only reason why i asked is because the 1g coil that I pulled has the square plug instead of the triangle plug. But since you've verified people have just used their 2g coil and placed it elsewhere, I'll leave it as is.

Yes i've refrence that site many times already. In the description below that pic it says:

"If you are going to be keeping the EGR system, a chunk of aluminum needs to be fabricated to bolt the MAP sensor to and that piece gets welded on top of the "EFI MULTI" on the 1G manifold. Its only purpose is to check EGR operation.

Also turbo4wd shows this pic as a custom "distribution block for the EGR sensor and MAP sensor":

Did you leave whatever that is displayed in the pick hanging on your install and also did you leave your EGR system intact?

Hey man,

Unless you are going to scrap your EGR system (you need it to pass smog) you will need to modify the 1G intake mani to accept that sensor. Pretty easy to do, just find a place to put a plate, and cut it up and tap it to accept the sensor. IM me if you need more info, I've been doin the best I can helping you out. ( You REALLY need to IM me when I'm sober sometime though ;) )

You can T that MDP sensor off another vacuum line if you want. You just need to silicon it because a vacuum line will not fit on there very reliably.

Elaborate. I don't have a clue what you are talking about here.

The backside of the sensor, the part that mounts into the top of the intake manifold, can just have a vacuum line ran to it instead of modifying the IM. The problem is that you really need to silicon the vacuum hose to the sensor because its not going to stay on very well otherwise. I tee'd mine off of the hose running off the IM that goes to the BOV. Not sure how to explain it any better :)

Thanks for the tip! I really didn't want to custom weld something onto the intake manifold. After some extensive searching, I found a post with LarryD having a similar issue and they have pics posted on that thread on how and where to tap it. Definetly save me some time and money. Although the little nipple on the Map sensor looks difficult to keep onto a hose. Guess im just going to douse it in RTV.

Hey Manny... I've done the 1g intake mani swap, so I had to do the MDP sensor ghetto rig. first off, the MDP sensor is tapered at the bottom. Get a file and take that off or the hose wont slide all the way down. Second, get a larger line and stick the smaller line through about a half inch of the larger line so the contact area is bigger. Im at school, so I'll draw you a pic.

Lol, looks like you should be an engineer LOL. Thanks for the tip Dan, I hope I finish everything up soon, I miss driving the 2g :)
