1G AWD to FWD

Hi, I tried researching to see if i can take out my drive shaft and rear parts to have my car FWD for the summer. Long story short i need to fix my rear end and im tight on money for the summer.
All i want to know is it safe for me to do this?

The center diff would have to be locked, otherwise all the torque would go to the non existant rear drive.

While I have used this trick to get a Jeep home due to a broken rear drive shaft, it does not work the same way in a DSM.

VC in the trans and you can run fwd.

Hey thank you guys for responding so quick. Alright im going to remove the shaft, i didn't want to unless i knew it wouldn't cause any kind of damage.
Yeah i did in it plow truck before just to get home, haha.

Diff is the best way to go. One of my friends broke his so his 2g was FWD for awhile.

Im sure if he cant fix the rear end right now, Im sure he doesnt have money for a FWD trans

best thing to do is try to search on forum for a parts car or someone who has a good deal on a rear. worst case try mitsubishigraveyard.
