1g FWD to AWD Possible?

I searched for a little while and looked around in the VFAQ looking for the answer to this question. I know that you can convert a 2g FWD car to AWD. I also know that the 1g FWD cars have no "Hump" going down the car to allow room for the AWD driveline. Is it possible(within reason) to convert a FWD 1g Talon into an AWD talon. I did do some research so I don't want the "anything is possible with enough money and time". I am just wondering if there is a way to convert a 1g FWD to AWD similar to the process of the 2g.

Simply, no.

Out of all of the DSMers on this site only ONE guy has done it on a 1g, and he said he would never do it again.

I assume the reason for this is because of the lack of the "hump" in 1g fwd cars unlike the 2g. Correct?

If you have a doner car and some auto body experiance it isn't a problem. The rear floor and unit frame section is what is different.
The easiest is to do a rear body section. You cut across the floor behind the driver seats and the B+C pillar. Weld the back half of the AWD in place and hook up the mechanics. I have never done an AWD converson but have done a rear body section on a 1G 2wd. It's just a parts swap after that.
If you havent sectioned a car before I would recomend against it.

I had a friend that swore up and down it was easy to do. He cut up his rear end and all kinds of things. sooner or later he just bought an awd and trashed the fwd.

I have considered doing it as I have an extremely clean 1G 2wd and the conversion would be easier for me than buying an AWD in poor condition and restoring it. I have had the opportunity to buy a rolled AWD that had engine and extreme body damage but the suspension and drive train was unharmed. My decision not to was primarily because it's my dd and road trip car and the maintenance and fuel costs would be greater with little gain for my type of driving.
