Are the 1g and 2g tcus interchangable by any chance? I have a problem with my 2g and it seems as though it is stuck in limp mode. It will slightly engage when in the L position but still act as though it is in 3rd only because you can keep it in L no matter how fast you go. Leaving it in D or 2 will just result in very minimal engagement but then free-rev after that and wont go much of anywhere. Like I said, L will allow me to go but it seems as though it only has 3rd. Reverse works perfectly as well. I did add tranny fluid in it to get it up to par. Also unhooked the battery for a while too. I took out the tcu and it has no visable damage to it. Is there something that could be wrong with the tcu but just not visible to my untrained eye since I dont know exactly what Im looking for? Also I noticed that when this started to happen, I also have no oil pressure shown on my guage. I know that can hopefully be something as simple as just the oil sender or something but would that make my car do what it is doing? What's your opinion guys? I do have a tcu from my 1G I could try out if they are in fact interchangable as well. Let me know.

EDIT: Well we were able to check on the back of the tcu and where the piece on the tcu that says Mitsubishi Electric and like M807 or something, there was some little brown crusty stuff where each of the pins were. Possibly a leak? I will try to get some pics up if my dad can take clear enough pics but let me know if that will harm a tcu.

TCUs can go bad. They are not interchangable..

Eh well that sux they arent interchangable. Anyways I agree that tcu's can go bad but just wondering whether the crusty/rust colored stuff that is on the back of the tcu may be my problem. Would you recommend me looking for another tcu right now or does it not sound like the problem?

maybe a different title would have gotten me more replies? Anyone help me out some?

I'd doubt the no oil pressure light and the trans have anything to do with each other.
You can try a differenct ECU, but before you do, try a search for 'pulling codes' that way you can tell what's goin on. If it's stuck in third, which it does sound like, then a code has to be thrown...and not an engine code, so a regular scanner won't do.

what type of scanner do you mean then cuz we did try the method that uses a multimeter to watch the pulses and that showed up nothing.

Those can be inaccurate. Get to a shop that can show something..and it's not OBDII that reads it.
