1999 Galant ES

Ok, My initial search wasn't very extensive so I thought I would throw a line here. One of my vehicles is a 1999 Galant ES. It has a SOHC 2.4L motor. Am I correct in guessing that it is a 4g64? I'm going to give it to my son as his first car. He doesn't need anything fancy, but I was going to attempt on making it a lil more peppy and not so much a "boring" car. I just want to confirm what engine is in it. Also What mods should I consider? I'm going to give it a full tune up first off. Then I was thinking a CAI and maybe a 2.5in exhaust for starters. Thanks in advance.

Yes it is a 2.4 4g64 engine. You could of looked under the hood and found that out though.

Yes, the Galant came with the 4g64. An intake an exhaust might give out some more ponies, but the biggest restriction to the engine is the head itself. So you really can't expect much from it without some pretty heavy modifications.

I figured I could just look under the hood when I got home, but I know you guys would be helpful Also its a first car, pretty sure he'll want something fancier down the road when he gets a job. Too bad I couldn't give him my first car, 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo. That was a pretty fun car. Anyway, about the 4g64, anyone do any other mods to those?

It is a pretty easy car to mod if you aren't staying naturally aspirated. An evo engine would be rather easy to put in there, or you could just boost the 2.4 which is pretty easy also with the stock evo turbo setup.
