travel to get one thats what im doing once i get the money for a tsi awd
i said it). They are probably the most beneficial car to learn off of with someone with a small budget such as yourself. You don't have a mechanical background, you cannot get into an adequately equipped garage, and you seem to just lack the drive most of us on Tuners seem to have about eclipse's.At least that horrid bumper is gone (from your driveway. Lol.). Your not hoping to get a turbo model with decent miles and no mods, completely stock for $2600 are you....? ### good luck. But like you said you are in high school. In my opinion it was a bad idea for me to buy an eclipse when I was 16 or 17. You will spend more time fixing these cars then driving them. But after years of them, I can tell you that unless you have the money to actually invest into a car and make it worthwhile; do not start with eclipse's. This also sounds like your first real car...
I cannot believe you sold that car for that price. Well, then again, my old old old N/A 420a which got tboned on the drivers side rear quarter with a bad 3rd and 2nd sychro and a huge oil leak sold for $1600... So I guess you can get lucky too.
You need to seriously consider investing in a honda civic (zi said it). They are probably the most beneficial car to learn off of with someone with a small budget such as yourself. You don't have a mechanical background, you cannot get into an adequately equipped garage, and you seem to just lack the drive most of us on Tuners seem to have about eclipse's.
Like I said, I would recommend steering away from Eclipse's unless you have the financial position to be able to play with the car. Between money, time, and knowledge it appears to me that you seem to be somewhat lacking in all 3 of those areas. Not saying you couldn't do it, just saying that you don't really know what you are getting yourself into. Teenagers love these cars for the same reasons they like celicas and other imports. They look good. You are attracted to the body lines and how it is a 'chick magnet' because you feel you can turn it into that and a real 'race car'.... Am I right?
Look around on these forums and you can just get a glimpse of some of the issues these cars have and if you don't know how to fix them yourself. You better start getting to be REAL good friends with a local shop because you will be in and out of there like a grocery store.
Just build up your knowledge on a pos civic so you start learning how engines work, how bolt ons work, how to get parts, and overall just learning as you go. Rather than starting with an already problematic car.
Does this make sense to anyone or does anyone agree with me?
Makes perfect sense with me. I'm taking yur advice and hopefully getting myself a Honda Del Sol tomorrow. It's not ideal, but it will do until I get some more knowledge and can hopefully get myself back into an Eclipse!
Well like I said, I hope I do not discourage you from DSM's all together as they are amazing vehicles when properly maintained. But like I also said, they are more geared towards intermediate mechanics who know the basics already.
Good luck! And I hope to see you around the DSM community again.
