Alright, I am getting that tsi for 200 bucks tommorow that those people are getting rid of because they said they red lined it and blew something or some b.s who knows, i just need to know what physical damage i can notice from this or how i can diagnose the engine based on looks. Like to check cracks or anything, lose anything, anything anything. Im gonna post pictures tommorow night but until then ide like to know what i should check and do before attempting to fire it up... thanks :talon:

Screw it, even if it didnt have a motor. You can buy a good 6 bolt and drop it in for like 600 bucks then you have a 95 tsi for under 1k and a little elbow grease.

I've seen rockers ejected from valve covers because of missed shifts, so I'd start on the top end of the engine. Remove the valve cover and make sure everything is where it's supposed to be. Rotating the engine by hand would also be a good idea to make sure everything is working properly and there are no obstructions. Maybe also shine a flashlight down the spark plug holes to verify there aren't any holes in the pistons. :)

Also checking the timing belt/balance belt alignment would also be a good idea.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

-Check all intercooler connections.
-Look for visual damage in the enginebay
-Did they say it will not even start?
-Timing
-pull the oil pan.
-Compression test.
-Pull valve cover off and check the valve train to see if anything looks out of place.

There is a HUGE list of things that you could check for..

You could find a good deal in the classifieds maybe if the right person comes alone. I just sold a complete great condition 6bolt with under 60k to a member on the board that lived 4 hours away, For $100. So deals are definatly out there.. You just need to look for them or wait until they come along.
