wondering if i could do this swap? will it be a plug and play system? I know its the same engine but will all the connections be the same?

I'm new to these cars and I would appreciate help if someone would know the answer. I'm kind of in a hurry because I want to buy the talon asap if that engine will swap right into my 1998 eclipse GS.

should, just swap over all the specific sensors from the 98 to the 95 motor.

im actually wrestling with the same dilemna, theres a 99 gs for sale with rod knock, and a good 95 motor and 5 speed for sale for under 1k. cars clean, but i have too much other crap to do...but the price is so hard to turn down.

Are they both non-turbos?

It's been a while since I've messed with a 420a, but the 95's did have a different ecu type compared to 96-99. Don't remember if anything else was different with sensors, etc.

Yes they are both no turbo 420a's, the talon is a automatic with a bad tranny, I want to take that motor and put it in my 98 eclipse GS.

So I'm pretty sure I will be good because I'm not changing any wiring except if I have to use some sensors off my blown up engine in my eclipse

Anybody else familiar with this swap? If I use my ecu from my 98 on the 95 motor will it affect it? Or not if I change all the sensors from the 98 to the 95 motor ?

If u use all the sensors from your current motor it will work fine, You shouldn't have any trouble. The most important sensors are the cam and crank sensors, which are not adjusable, so just be careful, swap them over and drop it in.

Thanks again looks like I'm picking up the car Tuesday I will keep you posted if I have questions or how it works

Hey guys I have the motor from the talon in the eclipse now, but I have no spark, it has a new crank sensor coil, plugs and wires, I'm also confused because the ecu's are different is that a reason why I'm not getting spark? I have all the sensors hooked up and change I just don't get why there is no spark

I hope you guys gave some tips on what some common no spark issues are because I really need you help thank you!

so you just swapped all the sensors from the eclipse to the talon motor?

if your not getting any spark, check the wiring for the crank sensor. past that, ASD relays on the drivers side firewall. have you ohmed the coils and tested that they have the proper values on the connector (i believe it is a 3 or 4 pin connector for the coil)

I checked the wiring for the crank sensor, and I will check the. Could but both of them worked before the eclipse blew up and I pulled the motor from the talon, and are those the two relays next to the brake fluid?
